ATI HDTV wonder remote edition $99.99 Frys

Its $129 @ Indianapolis(Fishers) store. But the manager pricematched it to the Bay area store. Maybe the TX fry's can do that too.

How's the picture quality? I was thinking of upgrading my TV card but seeing as how crummy the picture is with my Leadtek 2000/XP Expert I hesitate to buy a new one.

My experiences with the HDTV wonder. I actually purchased 2 of them. One I installed on a P4 1.8 Ghz. The instal took me 3 hours(my fault). With pretty much all ATI cards you have to follow the install instructions to the letter. The instal process is composed of 5 steps. I screwed up a step and could not figure out what's wrong...

Anyhow after the install it works pretty well. I use the antenna that comes with the card and the strength is pretty good, ~80% for most channels. You have to take into account that I live ~30 from downtown Indianapolis, and in a brick/wood house.

I also installed the card on an AMD system, Athlon 64 3200 with a gig of ram. I had trouble with the remote installation. Windows would not register the .dll files gave me error 1904.module... I was able to fix this by manually registering one of the dll files. Then I reinstalled and it worked. I still can't get the TV to work on my amd system, the DTV works ok though. Oh there are 2 connectors on the HDTV wonder, a analog TV/Cable jack and a HDTV jack. You also have 2 programs, TV and DTV that run analog and digital respectively.

The DTV video quality is AWSOME. The recording works great(tried this on the P4 1.8Ghz). I didn't think this card would work well on the 1.8 but it does.

Oh and I'm running Win XP, not WMC 2k5. So for those people who think that this won't work on XP ...mine does. You just have to be patient and install or reinstall on ocation. But once you get it up and running its nice.

So I hope this answeres some peoples questions about this.

Was looking at this cnet site on how to do a custom rig w/ media center edition, and this tuner looks like it would work nicely. Anyone know if you can hook it up to regular cable and get OTA HD channels through cable? My TV seems to have no trouble with it. Everywhere I look they only mention using tuner cards with an antenna.

Can this card be used with regular comcast cable (non digital)? Also, does it pick up free hdtv signals when using regular cable or digital cable? Perhaps there is a website that someone can provide to show how this card works. Much appreciated.
