ATI HDTV adapter question

I have ati 9800np. I made a mistake by buying VGA to component adapter. It didnt work on the 9800 only 8500. I had to get a VGA to DVI adapter for it to work on my mitsubishi HDTV. However, the picture didnt fit completely into the screen. Also, I was only able to 480p on my HDTV. Does anybody have this problem? Im not too concerned about the partically overcropped picture. I am concern about not getttin 1080i on my HDTV tho. Any ideas? Would getting a DVI to componet cure this problem?
