ATi HD 4000 Series Drivers

I haven't found an significant issue with my card yet, and the CCC opens very fast without delay, the only issue I found was the CCC Host would crash if you cancel the video encoding process in AVIVO. That was fixed recently.

I haven't had any significan't problems using the CCC or ATI's drivers in vista or in win 7 (both 64-bit versions). I'm currently running two 4850's in crossfire under win 7 and they are working flawlessly thus far (both overclocked to 690/1183). Running the newest drivers on the ATI site (9.6 i believe but I'm not on that PC at the moment to check).

One issue that I have had (which doesn't bother me at the moment): dual display support has never been functional for me (and I just added the second card for xfire 2 weeks ago - so we are talking about a single card setup here). It caused a blue screen randomly in vista for about a year... and now it causes win 7 to freak out... I really do wish they would work out this issue...

My experience with HD 4000 series and Catalyst drivers have been consistent, i.e. good. No complaint. There are a few items in my wish list, though, such as:

- Application profiles. I think this is kinda overdue. (Actually AMD does have a profiles system, but only for its own platforms via AOD)
- Better support of DXVA. VC1 support is nice (which NV doesn't seem to be bothered with), but WMV isn't an open standard. Vast majority of HD material is H.264 and it's a hit or miss when it comes to Catalyst & DXVA.

Uninstalled my 8800GT, installed my Hd 4870, got catalyst and the driver. It works well for what I want but I dont see an option to force triple buffering.

I've had nothing but success with Catalyst 9.5 and 9.6. Wayyyyy back in the day I had an issue with an ATi 1950XT that I just couldn't resolve. Haven't have an issue since.

It'd be nice if it wasn't such a strangely bloated program, but whatever.

You can use either use ATi Tray Tools or D3DOverrider which both have triple buffering support. CCC only offers triple buffering for OGL titles, which is the same problem with Nvidia's CP.

I find quite the opposite. Driver Sweeper has solved installation problems for me and created none. I've had enough weird ATI install issues that I just leave Driver Sweeper installed on my machine. Got tired of reinstalling it.
And therein lies the chicken or egg question. You use driversweeper, and you've had installation problems. Most people have zero problems. I've only had problems when I used driver sweeper. I consider driver sweeper/cleaner to be a relic of the win95 days when drivers (and OS's) really weren't half as good as they are today.

Actually the installation problems occurred before trying Driver Sweeper for the first time. Driver Sweeper seems to get rid of the problems when they occur from time to time. Once everything gets properly installed, it all seems to work flawlessly though. When updating my ATI drivers, I always make an image of my system with Acronis...that's how much I trust ATI's driver installations.
