Why dont you download a Vram utilization monitor and try Lost Planet. Tell me if you are using more than 768mb. I highly doubt it. Lost Planet seems like a badly coded console port with DX10 functionality slapped onto it as an after thought. I believe this is the reason for poor performance.

good idea... thanks...

...however, is it possible that with the 8800gtx it would not use more than the 768mb, however with ATI card/driver and the fact it has 1gb, possible it would use more?</end quote></div>

VRAM usage should be the same regardless of what card you are using as long as the in-game settings and driver settings are all the same.</end quote></div>

next problem, find enough time to have some fun and play...

Must be nice to have a card that actually allows you to have fun with PC games. My X1900XTX is a choke artist at 1920x1200. STALKER is no fun at 9fps.

Are they allowed to call the card 'The World Fastest Graphics Card 2900XT1GPE'

Thats false advertising......!

Edit, check the PSU requirements.....A 750 Watt or better power supply with two 2x3-pin PCIeú power connectors. For optimal performance, we recommend requires one 2x3-pin and one 2x4-pin PCIe power connector.

Very odd, ncix seems to have 4 in stock and no reviews anywhere. Must be a bust or something.

Where the heck are the benchmarks for this thing?

For that matter where are the 2600 and 2400 benchmarks?

This is the only thing I can find for benchmarks: http://www.coolaler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=154586 which really only has a few 3Dmark numbers, plus this is from 3 weeks ago.

@n7: let us know how it goes at that high res. I would be very interested to see if there is a major improvement at that level.

Cheers,
KT

We'll see ;)

Assuming this 2900 arrives sometime soon, i'm gonna do as many benches as i have games that can be benched.
Most likely, yes, i'll be selling the 8800 due to the issues i've had with nV's Vista drivers, but i can't say, since it remains to be seen [by me ] how it compares to the 2900.

n7 - maybe you should see if you can post your results to keys & appopin's site. You could do the HD2900XT 1GB vs. 8800GTX, while they handle the 2900XT 512 vs. the 8800GTS. Your setup should be similar enough to theirs.

Then we'd have comparative benchmarks for all the high-end cards in one place. ;)

did you think it would be any different?

That's a really, really crappy review. Not all the cards use the same drivers - they say they used 7.5 for the one card and v8.36 (intial RELEASE drivers) on all others. Wait for a real review from a reputable site.

Still, the HD 2900XT 1GB will only be slightly faster than the 512MB model... there may be some games that benefit from the extra VRAM, but I think for the most part it will perform like an overclocked HD 2900XT.

Since the HD 2900XT already is very close or ties the 8800GTX in some tests, the 1GB model WILL be faster than the GTX in some scenarios.

Results in that review do not match up with what we've seen elsewhere, so while i don't expect the 1 GB version to be a GTX or Ultra killer, i also don't think their results make much sense compared to what we've seen in other reviews.

I'll reserve judgement till i have tested it myself, & bear in mind, performance isn't the only factor these days.

Performance is amazing on my 8800 GTX.

But when you can't rely on the card's driver not to crash your system, performance becomes secondary.

I know nVidia's Vista drivers have been less than spectacular, but are they really so bad that they are crashing your system (with then newest drivers?). With my 8800GTS and 32-Bit Vista I've had a few bugs here and there but never have had my system crash or experience real instability.

Sorry... only had that when I tried lost planet, turned on the eye candy and rates got down in and below that range, sucks... however learned that my 8800GTX can run out of power with DX10 game...

I would wait until we see a true DX10 game engine running before saying that the 8800GTX doesnt have enough power. Lost Planet, CoH and Call of Juarez are games that were originally DX9 games and have had a patch slapped over it to add DX10 features. Obviously this is not the way it should be done and I think that is why performance is so poor.

Not to mention that Lost Planet is a console port that runs piss poor even in DX9 mode. R6:V is another example of a bad port. There's no reason why R6:V should run so poor on an 8800GTX.

all true... I don't think its as much ATI vs Nvidia that one sucks or/and one rules as some of the debates here go...

...I really wondering if the 2900 & 8800 at dx10 - when games really start hitting, so will the next refresh of cards, the that will really run dx10 bit better - or will our currect cards in the end cut???

I myself am looking forward to some dx10 good games, time for change, plus it will help me give in and like something bit more about Vista myself - after all, its not really MS fault Vista64 drivers not all up to pair, been out forever in beta and bit now itself in gold.

Our company has been hearing next vers. windows not far off at all... so is Vista another Windows ME? If so does it matter how any of the cards do with Vista/dx10 if Vista ends in being short lived...

QFT, I think my next vid card purchase will be primarily based upon who has the better, more stable drivers at the time- let us know how it performs :)

i agree ... PM Keys

maybe someone else can look for finding ads for it
:D

---we can all share the same benchmarking tools

so far, i have STALKER, FEAR and PREY benching "wired" ... and the XT is 'closer' than i thought

i am just doing a fresh install of Vista and XP for each card [actually 4 partitions] so there won;t be any irregularities with the testing ... and i am *hoping* to have my PC8500 at PC9900 speeds so i can get a REAL Overclock on my e4300 ... i like to match intel's top processor and figure i need about 3.4Ghz to do it ... i am gonna have to keep my room in the low 70sF to keep it rock stable ... i am used to low 80s :p

anyway, i am D/Ling Lost Coast and might run a couple of other benches if you so request and i have the game ... i am thinking Gothic 3, NWN2 or maybe Pacific Fighters [to test VTF in 2900] ... it appears that DM M&M is pretty redundant as we already have Source represented and Q4 is older than PREY ... maybe Riddick? .... or Oblivion with the max textures pack?

my biggest problem is the incredible amount of time it takes to D/L over dialup ... i need to D/L 250MB to update Q4 for example :(

anyway, i will start benching the same 3 games on a fresh install Of Vista next ... maybe i will set it up tonight ... i still have to wait for Steam

Please run tests of Call of Juarez (DX10 benchmark) and Company of Heroes with the DX10 patch - those are two that I'm really interested in seeing with the latest drivers.

i own neither of these games ... i am maybe interested in Call of Juarez ... CoH really doesn't interest me as a gamer and i *hate* to buy it
Are any of these with a demo? sometimes there are benchmarks available for the demos

and i got off the track here ... post the request in Key's "in house testing" thread ... one of us [evidently 3 now] may have them

Are you guys able to get Call of JuarezDX10 benchmark working at all?

It's giving me some error; i'll post it as soon as the main system finishes the benches i have it running now.

Gotta love seeing Painkiller :D
216 fps average @ 2560x1600 everything maxed 4x AA :D

The Call of Juarez DX10 benchmark is free to download (although its 700MB, on Dial-up that's going to suck)

I'll just be happy if i can get that bench to run instead of erroring at me upon attempted launch :(
