hello all,

i've realized that when i use ATI's DVD 7.1 to play my DVD's that my CPU usage on a P3-800 is still around 70%... this shouldn't be so right? ATI Radeon AIW should have hardware-DVD decoding! lemme know if this level of cpu usage is normal... i'm running win2k with 640MB of ram so i think that's plenty... maybe i haven't enabled hardware dvd decoding? please let me know

Yes, for an Intel chip that's normal.

Seriously, no that's not normal. Do you have DX8 and the the ATI DX8 drivers installed? Have you tried doing the DX8 add-on patch?

Get rid of ATi's DVD software and get WinDVD. My dad uses WinDVD 2000 2.0 on his box with a Radeon 32DDR and gets between 5-10% CPU usage on a PentiumIII 866mhz. He's using DX7.1.

even though Win DVD is better, he still needs to use ATi Software to get it to work on the TV though. I think it't ok to use ATi software.... shouldn't give you a lot of hassle since you have a pretty powerful system. I am using Celeron 433 with 384 MB of Rams and it's ok.

Yes, ATI MULTIMEDIA CENTER 7.1 (which includes ATI DVD PLAYER) supports Windows 2000 for Rage 128, Rage 128 Pro and RADEON boards. The ATI DVD 4.0 PLAYER supports Windows 2000 for RAGE XL, RAGE PRO and RAGE LT PRO boards, but as a software only solution. So, for optimal DVD playback performance, this solution should be used with a fast Pentium II and Pentium III or equivalent CPU.

i'm using ATI DVD 7.1 but maybe it still doesn't support DVD hardware decoding in win2000?
