ATI driver problems

I wanted to try the new 7.2 driver set, but the CCC is giving me headaches.

I fully uninstalled everything and rebooted prior to installing the new drivers, however, in Control Panel, I could not uninstall the old CCC (there was an error message relating to an .MSI file).

I used drivercleaner and everything.

This is frustrating! What can I do?

Yeah, I think in the rush to get these drivers out in all OS'es, they must have screwed up the installer. If you go over to Rage3D.com's forum, there's a few posts about this already. Very annoying.

reinstall your OS? 😛

😀

can't you roll back to the earlier drivers and CCC?
😕

i have a *feeling* that the ATi driver team is distracted by r600 issues. 😉

--who really knows?

i left off with 7.1 - they were quite stable - and can't try 7.2 'till next week ... not sure i should ... now 😛
[my sapphire will be back then ... but who knows if i will try it again? ... probably for my buyer]

Yeah, I had also problems with the 7.2 version, the CCC wouldn't work no matter what I do and the WDM installation simply stops without reason, so I just installed the drivers with Ati Tray Tool and no problems at all.

Had the same problems, used driver cleaner and used the separate install of CCC rather than the one bundled with the full driver suite, worked, but now my mpeg AVIVO codecs are screwed up and crash Dr. Divx when it trys to analyze mpgs.

Seems like ATI let loose a bad driver (for my x1950 pro at least)

and isn't the latest CCC supposed to be "upgraded" over the last version ... after SO long?
😕

my last cats were 7.1 😛

A few people over at driverheaven had similar problems. The site seems to be down for me right now, but I always go there when I have issues. Very helpful crowd and some real experts on drivers over there. CCC is certainly different with this version and quicker for me. But I change settings only rarely - so hardly notice.

edit:

Well I looked over at DH and the best advice I could find was either a borked download or install. So download the driver again. Uninstall use drivercleaner etc.

I cant seem to find a link on AMD's site for the 7.1 drivers and the AVIVO codecs, the 7.1s will not be too difficult to find a mirror for, the AVIVO codecs maybe tricky. Anyone know if ATI has a driver archive like nvidia?

Are you using the updated drivercleaner (have to pay $10) or the last free version? I ask as the most major driver issue I had (couldn't play video files) was caused by a faulty version of driver cleaner. Spike fixed it right away, but still I had to use the repair os option (almost a complete reinstall).

Seems as if the only part of the driver that has issues is the 7.2 CCC, if you are having trouble getting it to work, just use add/remove programs to remove your CCC and install the 7.1 version of the CCC that can be found by following Apoppin's instructions. 7.2 drivers and the 7.1 CCC seem to play nicely with one another.

Even if Catalyst 7.2 "Upgraded" the CCC there is still no reasons what.so.ever to use it. God has given us people in the community that create alternatives, one of them is named ATi Tray Tools. Use it instead for your own sanity's sake and in the name of our children.
