ATI Display setting problems..

Just made the change over from a Nvidia GE Force 3 to a ATI 9800np. Used Driver Cleaner and there were no problems in the uninstall of the old Nvidia drivers and with the install of the Catalist 3.9's. Everything went very smooth. Problem is when I make adjustment's in the ATI display settings. Any changes I make to the ATI desktop settings are saved and applied fine, BUT, once I go into a 3D game and exit, what I see are the ATI default settings again! Everything is much too bright. Going back into the ATI display propertys, as soon as I click the "color" tab, the screen changes back the the settings that I had programed in. Hope this quick explination makes since. Has anyone else had this problem and overcome it? Thanks in advance for any thoughts. As it stands now, I will have to return the card (2nd one) again, as my eyes can't stand the strain.

I presume you adjusted the colour settings for both desktop and full 3D mode, since there are two settings(one for gaming and one for desktop)?

Thank you for the reply Mem. Yes, I adjusted the color settings for both desktop and 3D modes. I tried different settings for both and also the same settings for both. The results were the same both ways. When I would exit the game the contrast and brightness would always be back at the default setting. I have to go back into the ATI display settings to reset them. The part that stuns me is that the new settings haven't changed (example .90 gamma, -10 brightness, 90 contrast) on the panel. When I click the "color" tab is when the changes occur. The screen will become less bright. ATI tech support was no help on this. I also tried rolling back the drivers to another version (3.4) and that was no help. I have been working on computers for 15 years and have not seen this before. I am at a loss??? I was hoping perhaps someone had seen this before.

Hmmm tough one,you know the new 3.10 drivers are due next week so you could wait for those to appear,as to your problem I don`t really know what else you can try, sound like a bug to me,but then I don`t use the colour setting.

I would head over to Rage3D forums since the site there is the main ATI site on the net and they have tech guys there that should be able to help you, here`s the link.Btw dashing, welcome to AT forums

I have that problem with some games. When I exit the game the gamma seems way too high. Don't know of any fix I just go to the display settings and change the resolution
then change it back.

Thanks. I will go over to the Rage Forum and do some reading and then post if I don't learn anything. Thanks for the welcome also........

Well, Mem's link was right on! It appears there are many people with this problem. And also there are people with this bug that don't realize they have it. The only way you are going to know and have a problem is to change the settings and try it. Many people make no changes and as a result it is never a problem or they are not aware of it. In my case I have a high contrast AG monitor and while ATI's default settings are fine for me in a game, desktop reading is really a strain on the eyes. Decision time lies ahead..............
