No wonder the top execs are selling out. ATi has been peddling crap for the past 3 years. I say good riddance.

I think we have a winner for the "Extreme Nv Fanboy" award.

Although a lot of people share the sentiment of g3pro about ATI passing off the same card for years and their lack of engineering ability, most of us still realize that ATI going under would be a very bad thing. Nvidia would have only Intel to compete with at the low end, and Zero competition for the rest. No incentive to improve.

Same card? Now that is a dumb statement, though I wish it was true, as I would have no need to update my 9700pro. Another candidate for the fanboy of the year award.

I would like to see some more top execs fall for the casino they call a stock market. A guilty verdict would be good news for all. Someone makes money on these wild fluctuations and it isn't the small investor (usually).

Thanks for the kind words ronnn. Your just a peach. I forgot I have to walk on eggshells around the anal minded in here. Subsitute the word "card" with "core-technology".
Is this less of a dumb statement to you? Or should I get my attorney to write up a politically correct version of the statement? You not only add nothing to any thread with your posts, you actually subract or lessen it.

No just a dumb statement from a fanboy. Of course Ati "core-technology" has improved greatly the last couple of years - much better gaming experience on the new tech. To say otherwise is as I said, just stupid. If you are saying that the 7800gtx is the best card out now, well who would disagree?

I don't think anybody said anything of the sort three years ago when the 9700 was revealed and proceeded immediately to the number 1 spot. And as nVidia has YET to release a better multi-media card than the All-In-Wonder series, I don't think the "lack of engineering ability" comment holds water either.

hehe, your funny. Improved greatly huh? Ok. Lets just go with that.

Creig: The 9700 was an AWESOME piece of hardware when it came out. Better than anything else. And the heart of it still lives on today in the X850XTPE. What a trooper.

Hmm..If your statement is true the Radeon 7000 series SHOULD outperform the X850 series. 🙂

I don't know Ronnn, the core technology has stayed pretty much the same if you're talking about the supported features. R3XX-R4XX mostly differ in number of pixel pipelines.

However, this thread is about the three lawsuits against ATI launched a few months after their settlement on a similar suit, not that.

Then is must be true.
Sorry for the OT, OP. It's difficult with the antagonistic crowd.

Good job thinking everything you read is fact. Makes you look very foolish. Thinking they will fold is just idiotic.

FYI, NV was investigated for insider trading.

If you're talking about four years ago when some guys bought stock after learning of the Xbox contract, that's a bit different than what's going on here, don't you think? (IIRC those involved were dismissed)

Except we dont know for fact what is, or not going on. Assuming everything you read is the truth, is not a good idea. Which is what I was getting at. malg has already convicted ATi, and thats just ignorant.
Sums up most responses in this thread. 🙂

I'd be more inclined to trust them if they hadn't just paid out $900,000 in fines a couple months ago for the same thing?

Update - Charges thrown out.

The Register

That article is not referrring to the numerous lawsuits of this year, it's talking about the deal back in 2000.

Canadian regulators have dismissed insider trading allegations against ATI Technologies? chairman, his wife and other company staffers and their spouses.

Ontario Securities Commission staff had charged that KY Ho and his wife, Betty, had avoided losses and maximized their charitable tax breaks by selling or donating ATI shares ahead of a profit warning in May 2000.

The new lawsuits aren't mentioned, I doubt they have even been looked at yet.

The usual suspects spreading FUD.

What FUD Jiffy? Gsellis had resurrected this thread when he found the article, I think he's mistaken about the current charges being dropped as the current cases aren't mentioned in the article, only the one from back in 2000.

It's definitely newsworthy that at least six firms filed suit against ATI for insider trading based on the assumption the execs dumped 40% of their stock based on knowledge only they had of the R520 line, don't you think?

Great for ATI if they've been dropped, but I don't think they have, I doubt they've even been to court.

I don't know the background, but I would simply point out that a company has to do pretty much nothing more offensive than casually remark that it might be a pretty good year, in order to get sued by the legion of predatory shareholder attourneys if it turns out the year is just average.

I tought the forums were a place to discuss issues, technology, help each other and provide tips for our conrades.

Instead, we have the usual FUD and OT threads. Who cares about what Nvidia and ATI are doing on their day by day business? This is not a business forum.

So everybody here knows how to run a company? Did you score always 100% in all things in your lives? You should apply for the job and make it work then....

Ford, Boeing, GE, all companies have tons of problems. We actually get paid to solve their issues: engineering, administration, computer software glitches. Be grateful they are doing that. The day they will be doing 100% fine they will layoff a lot of people.

There is an old saying like this: "the one who doesn't make mistakes is the one that doesn't do anything at all"......
