I thought everyone was saying the new drivers gave games like Crysis and Far Cry performance improvements?
Are they imagining things?

From release notes.....

So I'll ask in here because the actual thread became a clusterfuck of retardedness with that AZN guy.

Does an overclocked 5850 performing close to a 5870 say nothing, or are the 5870s really lagging behind in performance?

Yes, do that... because that question really belongs in this thread rather than the thread it's supposed to be in regardless of "retardedness".

Actually, it's related because one of the likely culprits was drivers not using the full potential of the card, and this being a thread about new drivers, it seemed appropriate.

9.12s running fine on my Win7 x64,I did not bother with the 9.12 Hotfix since I don't have any of those games listed plus it says,

Note! This driver is provided as is and is not supported by AMD. It has not completed full AMD testing, and is only recommended for users experiencing the particular issue described above.

I have some benchmark results comparing 9.11 and 9.12 (from ATI's website). To summarize the results, there's some increase in 3DMark Vantage. Nothing else worth mentioning. Actually, Furmark results are a good bit lower. I know that this isn't extensive testing by any means, but still worth a look:

Radeon 5770 - 9.11 vs 9.12 Drivers (Stock)

9.11 Driver:

3DMark Vantage - High preset:

GPU Score - 5557
Primary GPU test 1 - 16.72FPS
Primary GPU test 2 - 15.82FPS

GPU test 2 - 3.8 GPIXELS
GPU test 3 - 29.74FPS
GPU test 4 - 23.25FPS
GPU test 5 - 27.92FPS
GPU test 6 - 78.62FPS

FURMARK - 1680x1050 (8xAA, 1 minute benchmark):

Min - 16FPS
Avg - 19FPS
Max - 29FPS

Min - 64FPS
Avg - 74FPS
Max - 102FPS

Crysis - 1680x1050 (0xAA, Very High, 64-bit, DX10 3 loops)

Min - 8.46FPS
Avg - 24.325FPS
Max - 28.53FPS

9.12 Driver:

does anyone know if this fixes the dragonage problem where you can't play the game without it crashing every 5 minutes? or the borderlands "grey texture" problem?

I had the gray texture problem when I was running 9.11s on my 4870X2. When I moved to my 5970, I never saw that issue at all with the original beta drivers, and no gray texture issue with these either.

I don.t know about dragonage though, but I am seeing no gray texture issue in borderlands with these.
