ATI Catalyst 4.12 on WinXP SP1?

Is anyone using the latest Radeon driver on a WinXP machine that hasn't yet had SP2 installed? I'm a little afraid to update the driver for my 9800Pro since ATI has been "recommending" only using the driver on SP2 systems for a couple of releases now.
 
I don't have SP2 yet because I'm not at a point right now where I can risk being one of the 10% of users where the SP2 screws everything up. Eventually I will try an SP2 install, but I have some work things I have to get done with my computer first, and simply can't risk having problems with an SP2 installation just yet.

Back to the question: anyone without SP2 using the 4.12 Catalyst drivers successfully? Or should I just stick with my older drivers (currently running 4.6) until I can attempt a move to SP2?
