ugh... I guess thats an apology :/ ...?
Accepted ..

Next time try using a .... j/k ... ? Since I don't remember everyones type of humor here

As you can see from the above posts ... singling me out about loss of FPS was unwarranted.

And ... as other members start installing these drivers ,,, I'm sure you'll see more

P.S> I recently did a GPU volt mod, and slapped a Northpole on it.

Ah, my bad. J/K Noid 🙂 .

Catalyst 4.10 drivers today
Today at 06:39 AM by Ratchet77 Comments
For those of you waiting on the new Catalyst 4.10 drivers from ATI, the good news is that they will be released later today and will include the new Catalyst A.I feature. The bad news is that they won't be newer than the 8.07 betas released a couple of weeks ago and won't feature the 256MB bug-fix.

What's this 256MB fix? And what does it matter to most 9700/9800 users that have 128MB cards? Nothing I think...

I'm gonna try the 4.10s.

If anyone is able to use AI on "High" with no IQ problems, I'd be interested to know. I'm using the 4.10 BETA Omega drivers.

The good news is that AI on "high" is much better quality than the omega beta's. The bad news is that the frame rate is exactly the same as if on "low". Think high AI is broken for me with a 9700pro. Frame rate is slightly lower than omega beta's, but feel image quality may be slightly better. Sorry I know this is really not much help.

Ok ,,, here's my REAL q3a results.

I playonline ... so FPS is very important.

Real world LOSS in FPS
_____________

Playing games such as...Call Of Duty...no longer results in the games failing to respond when being played under Windows XP with an ATI RADEON? 9550 or 9600 series installed
Finally they fixed it and it literally took 10 driver revisions to do so.

Is there something wrong with the 61.77's?
They work quite well overall. In general nVidia releases driver less often but each driver release has less problems than ATi's more frequent drivers.

CCC gripes

1. CCC REQUIRES INTERNET ACCESS
2. Another background process.

My view on #1 ... What data are they collecting and sending to ATi?
About #2 ... I dont need any additional processes running.
They tried to pull this crap before ...
...... and they removed requirements for internet access on the CP we have now.
(by consumers complaints)

Going back to 4.9's (again)

Noid, that's a pretty marginal FPS loss, and it's probably due to AI (Quake 3 is a CPU benchmark at this point, and AI will affect that).

im very happy with nvidia as well as ati. I gave a friend a geforce 2 because all he had was intel extreme, and he couldnt play c&c generals because it was artifacting. But the new 61s fixed the previous 56 series problems. I can believe nvidia still supports and updates their oldcards. Kudos to nvidia and ati for jobs well done.

Hmm, according to the posts at Rage3D, the 4.10 Cats are older than the beta 8.07 drivers and don't have the 256MB memory bug fix that the beta drivers had.

Those are the drivers I'm currently using - they're posted at the ATI Knowledge Base in an article about KOTOR.

When the "old-school" control panel quality sliders are set to HQ/HQ, I get amazing improvement in Doom3 timedemo1 -- a full 9 fps! It's actually a visually noticeable improvement, since at the end of the timedemo, that part where the Imp walks towards you (right before the demo ends) is SO MUCH smoother. Lowest fps is 31 instead of 25.

Did not notice any IQ impact off the bat, but I haven't actually played it, just timedemo'ed.

NOTE: Putting both quality sliders to "Quality/Quality" results in 4.9-level performance in Doom3. My guess is, putting the sliders to HQ/HQ enables the Catalyst AI - but at what level, we don't know. The default, I guess.

NM - found it.

My Tribes Vengeance performance increased greatly with the 4.10s. With the 4.9 I experience *stuttering* when any level of AA was enables, the 4.10s seems to completely fix this problem so I am very pleased.

still testing ...

You do realize that with a 19k+ score in 3dm '01 you are exceeding the refresh rate of your monitor and cant possibly see the difference right?

Unless your monitors refresh is 150hz+

Refresh is 120 ...

3dM01 has FPS in lower panel.
I have number I use as reference at certain points in each test.
When I say "I see a notcable difference in FPS" ... I'm refering to the FPS meter.

Your right, but loss.
My 1st test was with no CCC, thus no AI. (no CLI.exe running in background)
Did you know the CCC wont work at all if you DENY it acces to the internet? (firewall)

Anyone know if there is a benchmark in NOLF2 ...?
(ahhh ,,, n/m ,,, I'm done re-installing these drivers)

Did you know that the CLI.exe sends data everytime you use it.?
I dont like my bandwidth tinkered with ,,, esp. when in the middle of gaming online.

I wont be replying to any more posts regarding my 'insignificant' losses in FPS.

Just upgraded to CCC 4.10s and all I can say is, CS:Source and Doom3 run better than when I was using Catalyst 4.9s without CCC. Just awesome work ATI!

No other issues, but then again, I don't play anything else.. 🙂

CLI.EXE is meant to autorun from the desktop so if you do block internet access it will NOT run, and all I can gather from what it is doing, is downloading the welcome Macromedia Flash screen from ATI.

My 2cents.

Interesting. this thread over on DriverHeaven.net also mentions seeing crashes with the Cat 4.10's and COD. There were at least two posts about it, and I haven't read the whole thread yet.

Another thing that was mentioned - these drivers are actually older than the beta 8.07s, and lack the "256MB fix". Most people reported a decline in performance relative to the public 8.07 betas.

It was annoying enough, that some of the older drivers prompted me to "register" my video card (or the drivers?) with ATI. When I saw that, I was like, "WTF??? - I already paid for the d**n card! Leave me alone!".

Guess they haven't learned yet. 🙁

When I ran Find max OC in ATItool, my OC went down to 335MHz in a matter of minutes from 405, I consider than an error since I can play with it set at 405 for a while.

UT2004 with AI on advanced is choppy, I have to switch it to standard. WTH kind of drivers are these.

didn't AnandTech already cover the Catalyst AI, and some of the problems it had? i.e. some of the AI settings resulted in greater cpu usage, especially the "Auto" one.

Quick question:

Is Cat 4.10 good for Sims 2? Comparing it to Cat 4.9 how does 4.10 fare ONLY in regards to Sims 2? I didn't play Sims with Cat 4.9 installed (except the tutorials) so I don't know for myself right off.

Did you know the CCC wont work at all if you DENY it acces to the internet? (firewall)

Its a client/server relationship, if the CCC can't talk to the driver..it won't work.

IMO, if the client and the server both run on the same machine neither one should need to go through the firewall to talk to the other.
