ATi Catalyst 3.2 Driver Released.

if we used the hack from 9500 --> 9700 do we need to do a new hack? (there are two diff ones, one for 3.0 and the other for 3.1)

Thanks BFG, hoping this driver release fixes the z fighting issue in Sac. I'm DLing them now, anyone have them installed yet?

Is it an OpenGL game? If it is try forcing a 24 bit Z in the driver control panel.

Supposedly this release fixes the stuttering problem.
For most people the stuttering issue is caused by running background programs such as 3D tweakers, anti-virus software and firewalls. Make sure you disable those if you continue to have problems.

Some people are reporting problems with CS with the 3.2's over at Rage3d forums.

CS Locks up on me when ESC to the menu...

Screen goes blank and black then my mobo starts beeping letting me know Im locked up with any key pushed or Mouse button.

It figures ATI would screw up the MOST POPULAR Game in the WORLD!

I got the same problem.
I was playing a game then when i hit ESC my screen was black.
So i restarted my computer tried playing Rally Sport Challenge Demo and guess what. It locked up on me.
Then I tried Black Hawk Down demo and the same thing happened. It locked up on me.
I thought it was my proccessor cause i overclocked it but when I reinstalled Catalyst 3.1 everything started working again.
All i think the new Catalyst 3.2 does is let u tell the difference if u have a pro or non pro cause it told me I had a 9500 Pro/9700 series, and it screws up ur games.
I'm gonna wait till the new drivers come out and see what they do next time.

Edit: Never mind, I've seen that other person's problems have been fixed.

I've had some problems in Mafia with 3.0 and 3.1 series, some sort of texture corrupting in the menus. Has anyone tried the 3.2's with Mafia? Thanks.

Peace.

Half-Life, BlueShift, OpposingForce, TeamFortressClassic and CounterStrike are all broken with the new drivers, OpenGL it is really bad, required a hard reboot(first time this has happened with my current build, way to go ATi!), Direct3D the menus are gone.

JSSheridan-

I don't have any corruption on the Mafia menus, but I didn't with the Cat 3.1s either. Your board OCd?

BFG-

Sac is D3D, can't force 24bit Z unfortunately. The problem has been with the R300 core since launch, and ATi has been sent numerous bug reports on it, they refuse to ackowledge the problem or admit it exists. I've checked with users that have had R9700s since launch and it has always been there, I suppose it is possible it is a hardware bug that ATi can't fix, although with how bad their driver team is I'm thinking it's just yet another problem. At the rate of the drivers improving from ATi, none of the games on my HD will be problem free in another couple of months.....

The problems were occuring at stock speeds, and I've seen others complain about these also. I'm using XP Pro, FYI. I'll give the new Cat's a try, after spring break. Peace.

I played Mafia with the 3.1's and I never saw the text corruption that has been mentioned. I did run into a little stuttering once in a while, mostly turning corners while driving. The 3.2's have pretty much taken care of that.

Looks like i'm gonna wait until the 3.3's. With all the issues you guys are havin', and the mild boost the 3.2's are supposed to provide vs the 3.3's.

When we launched CATALYST we committed that we would keep adding new features, bug fixes and performance boosts across the range, but we're dead serious about our stability and quality testing and won't compromise that for anything. The CATALYST drivers are the most stable on the market, and that will not change. So for now CATALYST 3.2 will have not have the amazing performance boosts for the 9700, CATALYST 3.3 will! Furthermore since I like you guys so much I will plan on bringing in the CATALYST 3.3 posting day from our typical release cycle, and have it posted as soon possible

However, since the CAT(!) is out of the bag - you now know that 9700 owners will have a great performance boost with the CATALYST 3.3 posting. We're not just number one - we'll now be #1 (RADEON 9800 PRO), #2 (9800) and #3 (9700 PRO).
Well, "dead serious about our stability and quality testing and won't compromise that for anything.", I don't doubt that they'll iron out the bugs for XP users, eventually - but that's a bold statement to not back up seeing as how more and more of the userbase running 9700's are XP owners.

I have a question about the ATi control panel options, specifically the Direct3D and OpenGL options. What is the function of the slider that lets you slide between Performance and Quality for both of these APIs? How does it accomplish a performance boost if you were to slide it to the left? I know nothing about 3d rendering (yet 🙂) but I didn't know there was more than one way to render a 3D object. Thanks guys

Make sure you clean out everything from the previous driver version. I upgraded from the 3.0s to the 3.1s and was still having the problems in Mafia. I then went and deleted every last bit of the 3.0 drivers and when I reinstalled 3.1, Mafia played fine.

the sliders turn off thins like AA and AF for u so that if u dont know anythign about AA and AF u dont ahve to worry about playing with it yourself. BVasicly performance gicves u higher framerates at lower quality and its the opposite if u move the slider to the right

I installed them for my 9500 pro but getting a lot of artifacts. I believe that I have an insufficient PSU issue though. Getting a new PSU tonight so I will edit this post then.

Can anybody tell me how to disable V-sync for all applications? Or is it per application (game) that I have to do this...

Radeon 9500 pro
Win2k pro
1 GHz PIII
256 MB PC133

Just installed the 3.2 Cats but cant get over 35 fps in most maps for UT.

So far the Cat 3.2s are playing very nice with my Crucial 9700 Pro. Spearhead looks and plays awesome. 🙂 Have to see if Mafia looks and feels as good now.
