ATI Catalyst™ 10.5 out today.....

any improvements over the 10.3 w/ W7 & 5770?

Nope, I knew they shot there load with the 10.3's 🙂

Now we have to watch Nvidia move farther ahead in performance with there new 256 drivers which are great even in beta form. 🙂 🙁

This thread is about AMD's 10.5 driver release. Not Nvidia's 256's. Please keep on topic and do not derail this thread any further.

Except that according to phoronix there are multiple performance regressions in the 256 beta drivers. Now, I know that's linux, opengl and beta drivers -- but the important bits use the same base code for windows and linux. I'm sure the nv blog praises them to high heaven but so far end user reports of the 256 drivers have not been awe inspiring.

Nice timely release. I just got my third panel for eyefinity. I'll find out tonight if it fixes one of my flickering display in eyefinity mode on my Xfired 5870s.

I knew those improvements were too specific. Down to resolution and AA settings? That was just too weird

I'm sure BFG will test them and give us the skinny.

Who is phoronix ? Is that a web site?

Edit: nevermind its a Linux based driver they use?
You are kidding then right?

Preview of performance with new drivers. Looks like another 5% boost.

http://www.expreview.com/10655.html

Remember the previous drivers gave the gtx series a 5% boost over at Xbit labs review.
Thats 10% and there official gtx 4xx driver comes out with the release of the gtx 465.
The gtx 480 should be a good 25% faster then a 5870 by then, and the gtx 470 about 15% faster then the 5850. With of coarse the better minimums across the board.

Mabe ATI has another super driver or did they use it with the gtx release (10.3)?
I hope so, my 5750 hasnt seen a boost in 2 months. 🙁

You don't seem to understand Nv and ATI cannot have every release as a massive performance improvement in every game- it takes months of prior development to come up with something like 10.3 or 256.17. Driver teams have development goals, one release may be devoted solely to performance while other may be bug fixes or feature enhancements. I know it's more exciting with things like 256 but let's keep it in perspective- It's a certainty there will be more performance drivers coming from both ATI and Nv.

What a load of rubbish.

To get back on target. I'm using the 10.4's with no issues, but have read a few quirks among other message boards with users running the 10.5's.

Anyone upgraded from 10.3's or .4's with positive results? I think i'm going to stick with the 10.4's for now.

10.4's got rid of the flickering when using dual displays for me. All games are fine and I have 27 of them. 🙂

I have no issues so far. Playing Dirt 2, Dead Space and Burnout: Paradise without any problems.

I don't see how that is possible considering that the "most important bit" to any gamer is DirectX, which is not even present on a Linux box.

i love how now every thread we open its about that one guy blathering about "ATI shooting its load in 10.3" damn near verbatim. the moderation on this site has become a lop sided joke

not interested in derailing either skurge - just genuinely confused about what the selective definitions of 'attacks' are here lately.

Let me help you out here. The nanosecond that you redirect your comments from the actual threads "subject matter" in this case new drivers, and focus on the PERSON who made the post instead, is an indication that you wish to engage that member on a personal level. This thread is very tame, but I have to say that your post would be the first one that would receive any moderation seeing how you redirected from subject matter to an individual member, just so you know.

Anyone see if they fixed the flickering with dual monitors?

Ill install when I get home and see 😛

OT

everytime I see nvidia 256 drivers I think of the actual nvidia 256 card from yesteryear. Wonder how driver optimizations would help that card....\

Got home:

FIXED FLICKER!!!!! 2d clocks bug has been eradicated. WOoTALICIOUS!!!!!
