ATI card issue

hmm,
I wonder what could be wrong with this card of mine.
just received it from ATI today (after an RMA)
im using a BUILT BY ATI X800 XL PCI-E card

the anolog connector works perfect,
but everytime I try to use DVI., it shows no output...

another faulty card?
i've tried using my other PCI-E lane and the same problem occur...
any suggestions how else should I test this card?

What LCD are you using, does it have a USB hub? I had a similar problem, which I outlined here on the MSI (maker of my motherboard, forums; http://forum.msi.com.tw/index.php?topic=83019.0 )

Since I have nothing else to go on, I would suggest you unplug the USB hub (if your LCD monitor has one) and just leave the DVI input plugged in and try to reboot.

using a Hyundai L90D+

fact is for my previous card, it worked with DVI.

so I believe it is definately something wrong with this card. I have the latest drivers installed too.

Try hooking up both monitors then see if you have to enable the DVI port. It may only be looking for the monitor on the analog port.

u mean hook up the DVI and Analog at the same time on one LCD?
that helps enable it?

You need to hook the DVI display to the card before you power the system, or enable the unit manually from ATI display properties.

Exactly. I figured with Both units connected you would be able to access the ATI display properties panel and enable the second monitor output if it wasnt doing it automatically.

alright I hooked up both analog and DVI ports and start up
but still no output.
Now, I left the DVI connected to the card,
but only have the analog port on and the screen works fine again.

seems like it wasn't enabled at any point.

Do you have another DVI monitor you can check it with?
How about a DVI to STANDARD 15pin VGA adapter?

Maybe its not the card but the monitor?

Its not an HDTV is it? If so some of them are difference despite the connecors looking the same.

my monitor is a hyundai L90D+
yes it does support DVI

so using a converter u mean? (DVI to analog) yeah I have that.

does it have any benefits as to just use a regular analog connector then?

looks like I am doom with a lousy replacement that has issues

occasionally it crashes due to so called "X800 series driver problem"
something I never faced before..
im using cat 5.6

Are you switching the source of the monitor to digital when you put it on the dvi output?

shouldn't it auto detect?
i have tried having both DVI and Analog hooked up too, but nothing shows,

and then tried each individually, but only the analog works
I guess the hardware problem then?

note that I did not face this problem with the previous X800 XL before it started showing problems (whch led to the RMA)

Are you running it at 60Hz, because DVI only supports 60Hz whereas analog supports 60, 70, 72, or 75Hz depending on resolution.

Digital supports:
640x480 (60Hz)
800x600 (60Hz)
1024x768 (60Hz)
1280x1024 (60Hz)(recommended).

Analog supports:
720x400 (70Hz)
640x480 (60Hz, 70Hz)
800x600 (60Hz, 72Hz, 75Hz)
832x624 (75Hz)
1024x768 (60Hz, 70Hz, 75Hz)
1152x864 (75Hz)
1280x1024(60Hz, 75Hz)

They state:

If the signal from the system doesn't equal to the preset timing mode, adjust
the mode with reference to the user guide of videocard because the screen
may not be displayed.


I found the monitor driver HERE

Be sure to install the monitor driver if you haven't.

but on DVI mode, I cannot even see a single display.
on analog im running 75Hz, but DVI its fixed at 60Hz (settings last time around)

Unplug the monitor completely and let it sit for a few minutes and then start it back up with the DVI plugged in when the monitor first receives power. There are a few LCD panels that remember which port you used the first time they are powered on as a default port and ignore the other one until you "reboot" the monitor by powering it off. A few Dell LCDs have this issue and it might be worth a try on yours before you send back any hardware.

tried that method by "aka Inas", and still doesn't work
well yeah the card is a bit buggy apart from a non functional DVI port.

it also locks up and requires VPU recovery to bring its settings back to default while I am gaming.
rather annoying but I can live with it. furthermore shipment to canada is not cheap.

i'd just stick to this card for now until its due for an upgraded.. assuming I have the cash to invest on it,

two thumbs down to ATI for returning a card that is so called "BRAND NEW"
