Here is the article.

Kirky48 sends word that the ATI X800XT PE product has been discontinued as of Tuesday, August 10, 2004. According to a letter sent out to customers who ordered the X800XT PE from CDW, ATI has discontinued the Radeon X800XT Platinum. The letter states, "Thank you for your recent order with CDW. Unfortunately, the manufacturer has discontinued the ATI Radeon X800XT Platinum. We are still carrying the ATI Radeon X800 Pro for $389.00. This X800 Pro card is currently out of stock for approximately 30 - 60 days. Please advise if you would like to switch your order. If I do not hear from you within 3 business days your order will be canceled." There were rumors of ATI canceling the X800XT especially since the product kept being pushed back. Some people have it, but it was never massed released and from what I read it will never be released. A few posters at Rage3D have also confirmed the email sent from CDW here and here. Not too long ago Gateway dropped their X800XT PE's.

Ouch. Wonder if they are saying screw it and going with the R500?? If HL2 ships on time this could be trouble. X800Pro is the only one available in some sort of quantity, if you can call it that.

If it's true, I would image there will be no bargains from nVidia on the 6800s.

No competition = higher prices (which would suck)

At this rate the 6 month refresh will be the current high end cards actually available in quantity.

It would be crazy funny if the re-release the x800XT PE later this year.

It's kind of funny how both CDW and Gateway (the two stores that were selling the XT PE way below MSRP) are now saying the XT PE has been discontinued.

Maybe this is their way of getting out of honoring all those low priced XT PE's?

It just doesn't make any sense for ATI to do this.

Like the other guys said, this is getting stranger by the minute.

That's just bs. Personally, I've gotten 11 XT PEs just this week. This is one of the oldest tricks in the book, claim the item is discontinued so you can cancel all the orders without the customer backlash. It's just silly to think ATI would, for no reason, discontinue its flagship product.

You better hurry! Buy a Gigabyte or Sapphire Radeon X800 Pro VIVO and soft-mod it to a Radeon X800 XT PE! That's what I did and it runs great with all 16 pixel pipelines working at 520MHz core and 560MHz (1120MHz GDDR3). And Imean hurry because thy'll be laser locked any day now!:)

Well, ATI better send out a press release, because CDW and Gateway are giving the impression that their flagship product was discontinued.

I don't think I've come across 11 people on the AT forums with XT PEs, so what's your secret? (Also, once your auctions close I bet you'll be one rich guy :) )

CompUSA employees on |H| are reporting the same.

don't believe this FUD

ATI X800 XT not cancelled
A READER TELLS us that there is one very interesting mail that he or someone got from the CDW store. The CDW guy claimed that ATI will cancel X800XT cards even the pre-ordered ones. You can check it online here.
Whenever we file links like this, another company will ask us: "Don?t you think that this is from Nvidia or vice versa that wants to spread the rumour?"

Well, therefore, we've asked around and got the real story.

It turns out that many people, even ATI's partners, think that ATI will cancel X800 XT cards and offer their customers X800PRO as replacements. This simply won't happen.

The majority of ATI partners cannot get any of thoee cards since the yields are still not good and the quantities are small. The same rule applies for retail stores - they cannot get something that is not available.

We have confirmation that at least one of ATI's partners shipped some quantities but in a very tiny quantity. OK don?t push us, we will tell you that it was more then ninety nine but not much more.

To remind you, ATI hasn't launched this card that will be clocked at 500/1000 MHz and to stand between 475/900 MHZ clocked X800PRO and 520/1120 MHz Platinum.

XT Platinums are a different story - they're very hard to get but still in better shape then X800XTs. The real quantities will come, believe or not, in September.

Wow, so the only source of information even less reliable than random internet rumors, the Inquirer, is trying to squash these rumors.

It'd be nice to hear something solid from a real source. Even though the Inquirer is worthless, my personal take in this case is they are not cancelled, though with availability like this, ATi might wish they'd never launched them :D Even 6800 Ultras are starting to show up in greater and greater amounts, slowly leeching credibility from the GDDR3 supply excuse if quantities coming from the ATi arena don't start to match, and soon.

Seen this before, when a retailer cant get an item they discontinue it, not the manufacturer.

now seriously, from a logical point of view...why would they cancel this product?

sucks if true, except for bar081 who is going to have 11 collector's items on his hands...

Just knowing where to look, excess time, and a little luck. Don't get me wrong, it's not like they're flowing in from all over but they are out there. They are harder to get a hold of than 6800 Ultras and they typically carry at least a $50 price premium over msrp from the supplier (although not from the manufacturer, who are still selling them for below msrp so all the markups on price are from the retailers/suppliers.) It seems pretty apparent they are having yield issues with the XT PE cores, but the XT PE is far from cancelled.

Sad but true. :p

The Inq has been VERY reliable re: the recent ATI vs. nVidia launch since the beginning of the year. ;)

You may not like it, but it's been the best source of leaked info on the 'net . . . or can you find another?

:p

No, it's stupid for ATI to cancel the x800XT . . . that'd be like admitting nVidia has the better flagship GPU (actually, nVidia does - anyway) . . . .

you can bet this is Gateway FUD . . . i wish they'd 'go away'. :p

I have no desire to get a PE, but one thing I know is that you don't cancel your flagship product unless you can replace it with something better. Consumer perception is important, and this says you have no faith in your product.

Again, ATI should issue a PR to nip this in the bud.

No, they should IGNORE it and ship PRODUCT . . . asap . . .

before they lose even MORE credibility. ;)

That you are a liar and should be banned.
