OK now how in the hell do they expect average people to install there videocard drivers??

About 5% of the World has the ability to get CCC installed and working right.

I was shocked when moving over from Nvidia to ATI how annoyingly stupid there driver is? Sure its easy for you and me but it should be easy for everyone.. It shuld be like Nvidia .. just double click and sit back ?

This is a complete joke ? Ati are morons for brining out a driver that isn?t a 1 click install?.

I just ended up installing Ati Tray tool and using that for my settings and OCing

This would be a REALLY good example how ATI is full of mismanagement i have no idea how they could release this only option out to the general public.

Not everyone is interested in playing or tweaking with a PC but drivers are a must and even simple people must update drivers .... yet they have failed to make it simple.

I agree that it's not as easy as installing nvidia drivers, but it's not anywhere as difficult as you make it out to be. Only difference for me was that you have to reboot to reinstall your old drivers, then reboot again, and then install the new drivers, and reboot again. Nvidia drivers let you install over your old drivers, and it'll just automatically delete the old ones.

I didn't have any problem upgrading from Catalyst 5.9 to 5.13. I didn't uninstall the old ones at all, just double-clicked on the new, rebooted when asked, and that was it.

virtualgames0 & sm8000 Its not that simple for people with fresh copies or windows XP SP2 installed because ATi's CCC will NOT work unless you install net frameworks ... and that doesnt come as a default with windows

I'm a system admin and i found it stupid and annoying. What about non-PC tweakers.

I just feel it should be something so simple a first time computer user should have no problems doing.

In my experience, the "express install" of the ATI drivers has installed the CCC and WDM drivers automatically, in a more or less one step process.

Yes, CCC is bloated, but you can use tray tools to get around it.

Why don't you just install all the Window Updates including Framework before installing your ATI drivers? I've never had an issue w/ ATI driver installs, same as Nvidia to me.

You can just install the plain drivers without CCC or anything if you don't care about PC tweaking (for them non-PC tweakers). And guess what if you do wanna tweak drivers, just install ATI Tray Tools, its freaking great. It don't take a whole lot of mental gymnastics to get new drivers man. Their website is not pretty, but its works. And does anyone else remember a time when ATI and Nvidia had virtually the same design for their new drivers page?

Frameworks isnt a default update. And i don?t want it. I had no problems with there previous CP but the CCC forces you to install things that do not automatically install making it a complex install process for something that should have a mainstream difficulty attached to it

You people with no issues are not noobs who are unaware of the fact you required a secondary install to get this CCC working.

It's called the ".NET Framework" by the way. ATI being a "partner" now with MS is helping them get their API out onto people's PC. And like makoto said above, you can easily install the driver withOUT the CCC. I've never used it, and I don't think I even currently have the .NET Framework on my PC installed.

Yes but with Nvidia i install my drivers and i'm done... with ATI ive gotta install drivers then download ati tool from somewhere and install that as well .. yes its easy and has no problems but it shouldnt be like this it should be as simple as Nvidia has made it.

And it was with CP.

I would guess 97% of the PC's running WinXP worldwide right now do not have Frameworks installed. And ATi's drivers would fail to install on those PC's....Why would ATi do this?

ATi's Drivers =! CCC, you can always install just the system drivers without the CCC.

i currently have the previous ati drivers with ccc and .net that i had to install ..I hate this, it slows down starting and shutting down the computer and servers no purpose for me.

my question is, can I uninstall ccc and .net, and upgrade to the new drivers and ati tool ? I would have done that with the last set of drivers but I couldn't find those drivers without ccc.

btw, the real reason i went through all that installing of crap a few weeks ago was because i got an HD Wonder, which has another 150 mbs of it's own junk to be dl'd and installed. I don't want to run the ati uninstaller thingy because it will remove all of the HD Wonder stuff too, which means about 4 more hours of installing and sorting out to do..

I install everything on Windows Update EXCEPT the drivers. That being said, I've already installed .Net Framework. There are other applications that require the install, so it is best to already have it installed instead of scratching your head wondering what the problem is when installing a new application that requires it. I don't see a reason NOT to already have it installed.

Oh, and I have a 6800GT video card. :)

i think you have it the other way round . . . 95% have ZERO trouble with Cats. . . .

Did you use the ATI Cat UNinstaller? i can't see why an extra click or two would bother anyone . . . unless they recently moved from nVidia and might be lazy.

ANYway, even nVidia is going to .NET . . . so you might as well get used to it. ;)

Then don't use the CCC. I never have at all, especially on my fresh XP+SP2 installs. I am not a gamer and only a moderate tweaker.
