You may find it educational to listen to the companies conference calls on earnings and future direction sometime Josh. Also try listening to investor analysis of the two companies...

If there is anything that is worse than an AEG/HRC member, it is a member with investments in those companies. I really could care less about what any company is doing, as long as I get a product that gives me what I want. Whether it's ATI, Nvidia, Intel, S3, [whatever other company wants to try it] I don't care. It doesn't matter if they are losing stock, laughing their way to the bank, merging, buying other companies, etc. If a company can't provide me with an appropriate product, I won't buy from them. I don't see why as a consumer I need to be more involved with a company than that. Why do you care to look at the investor anaylsis of the two or listen to conference calls on earnings? (Pardon my bluntness but yank-yank) Who cares? Ultimately they want money, and the only way they are going to get it from me is if they keep emerging modern equipment that functions well for a good price.

This is strange for sure but then Macs using Intel processors is stranger.

While I will definitely enjoy having ATi further weakened by the merger/buyout,
Of course you would.

Who said I had any investments in any of these companies Josh? You don't have to be an investor to take notice of financial anlysis.

True. I wasn't meaning that you had investments. I was simply saying that I don't see why someone would actually care to see a financial analysis of a company if you weren't thinking about investing. As long as you get what you want, does it matter if Nvidia has 11.6 million or if ATI has 11.6 million or if AMD has 11.6 million or if Intel has 11.6 million?

fierydemise, sorry if you feel like this is flaming. I'm trying to understand what exactly Gstanfor meant by "fanboi mindshare" and paying a company's bills have in common. I would try to PM him, but last I checked I was being ignored by his PM inbox.

And thats the worst thing about you. You always want to try to look for NV's downfall. Or "aim barbs" at them. Of course, you always say you're no fan boy

Pathetic.

ati/amd is not a good thing for anyone but ati/amd, and I'm not sure its so good for them.

"you'll see"

if that is the"worst thing about me" that you can find, i am feeling pretty good about myself right now. :p

;)

:D

i don't mind nVidia at all . . . and i hope they survive and prosper as a competitor to ATi . . . nVidia makes great products. . . edited. ;)

lol , I don't think Nvidia would have a problem suriving the high end GPU sector... I fear for ATI High End GPU sector. I am only really seeing AMD benfit really from this take over. ATI may get technology and stuff but right now but it does detroy the relation they have with Intel which is better than Nvidia has and it makes Nvidia jelous but that all will change after the takeover.

ATI has been making alot of progress but a take over by AMD now doesn't seem good and espically for the high end GPU market.

I have feeling that Nvidia may became a monopoly in the high end GPU sector.

thank-you . . . no biggie . . . it's video ;)

and i also am sorry for 'stirring it up' . . . i have been 'away' for quite awhile . . . in Oblivion for over 1,000 hours.

personally, i still see it as positive . . . it will benefit both ATi and AMD and will encourage nVidia to become even more aggressive. ;)

i see it as win-win [as i rarely see mergers] . . . but then . . . 'we'll see'

:D

and i don't see this merger as 'weakening' nvidia in any way.

nvidia would have won that war on their own anyway eventually.

What makes you so sure?? You think NVidia would have run ATI out of business??

You call my post flamebait??? You are really delusional. That was an honest question. I was curious as to your reasons why you said what you said, I mean you did have reasons for saying it right??

BTW, I'm still asking what makes you so sure that ATI would have been run out of business?? It's not like they have been bleeding red lately. Their financials(I just checked) were not too bad.

I personally don't see this benefitting anyone but AMD. The high end GPU customers probably will not benefit either. It would suck if NVidia is left alone at the high end. I like the back and forth nature we have currently.

I doubt it, but if it did happen it really would be bad - we see what Creative did when they finally became a monopoly. Not good.

This is fvcking stupid... GPU manufacturers having to cling like dingleberries to their CPU partners ass hairs and vice versa is gonna limit everyones' options.

Welcome to the world of Computers. When I got into this hobby their was a million options for every part you wanted to buy. Now it's just 2 for just about every part.

AMD or Intel
NVIDIA or ATI
Creative or Almost nothing
Microsoft or nothing (at least for a gaming OS)
WD or Seagate
PSP or DS
Beer or Whiskey (Really nothing else is worth drinking).

Wait until Nintendo gets bought out and see the console geeks freek out.

I'm against this merger. A CPU company taking over a GPU focused company can only mean bad things for the future of high end graphics chip releases from ATi. AMD would probably relegate ATi's top engineers to other platforms it considers important and leave ATi with a handful of engineers to produce mediocre midrange graphics cards. No thanks.

Yikes, I agree with Joker :D

I like things the way they are now. In fact I wish another card company would step up to the plate and compete on the level of ATI and NVIDIA. If AMD sinks ATI's high end business, then NVIDIA will be alone at the top and that won't help us as consumers any at all

I know AMD could use the help from ATI to keep up with Intel, but it would be at the expense of ATI's high end development.

Its the end of times! Nah I think anyone that wants to see a competitive atmosphere in the GPU market that benefits consumers would see this merger as a bad deal.

Been asked by a mod to edit the comments. So I'll phrase it differently: Why the anger/hostility towards ATi?

Big surprise that a troll like you would enjoy something that would harm consumers. What I don't understand is what you have against ATi? Did Dave Orton sleep with your wife and then piss in your cheerios afterwards? He must've for you to be this angry.

He said he is a reseller for certain NVidia cards...so no wonder.

But I think some NVidia fanboys will eat their own words if it ever comes to the point where NVidia is left alone to the high end.

Oh it was the fanatics early on who overran every forum such as digitalwanderer, jdpc & yourself and who insulted everyone in sight along with things like QUAK, the Tech-TV "we can do DDR-II too", the visiontek "advertising" etc that did it for me...

so you are hating a company because of it's fanboys?
:Q

in that case i should HATE nVidia because of you. ;)

i don't :p

:D

and both company's marketing suck . . . nvidia of course brought us Viral Marketing . . . and Rollo

So two wrongs make a right? I can see your logic though, insulting a company that didn't directly do anything to you and getting revenge against fanboys that hurt you by trolling on other forums............

If an end result is Torrenza with AMD CPU, ATI GPU, ATI Physics then you have a gamer's dream. Well I should say AMD CPU, AMD GPU, and AMD Physics :)

The fanboys were only a small part of it.

It's Ati's ethics, morals and public conduct that I have always strongly objected to.

and i ain't "in favour" of the merger . . . it just gives me an opportunity to disagree with those who hate it [for no good reason i can see yet].
