I have had some problems with my computer lately (adware, viruses, etc) and had to reformat and reinstall my OS (win2k). Before I reinstalled, I was using mmc 8.8 and had NO problems. Since I have reinstalled I have been plaqued with nothing but problems out of my ATI software. I installed 9.02 and had problems starting the system so I uninstalled it and installed 8.1 off the CD. I then upgraded to 8.8 and have additional problems with the system.

When I try to start "TV" in any resolution higher than 1024X768, it will reboot the computer. and now when I try and record anything, it says "starting..." where it usually states the frames recorded.

I am all but lost on how to deal with this stuff... I am thinking of just scrapping my ATI software and starting over, but I am not sure it will fix anything.

Suggestions???

Thanks

Need a little more info.

What MODEL AIW is it?

What Service pack are you running?

What Service Pack were you running before things went bad?

Are there any Conflicts in Device Manager?

Have you checked the EVENT Log for clues?

its an AIW 9200
win2k sp4
no changes before things went bad, it was a clean install. I installed the OS/software (as I had before), then installed ATIMMC 9.02. I had problems with that and un-installed it. Then I installed 8.8 and the system started to run rough.

there are no conflicts, and the event log shows nothing unusual.

I had the software currently installed and more under my old installation of win2k, and had NO problems with MMC at all. It was only after reinstalling the OS/Software that problems cropped up.

And, as a matter of fact, it seems to be an intermitten problem as the scheduler started and recorded a program while I was at work. HOWEVER, upon playing the file, the audio/video is badly de-synced (which has NEVER happened before today).

This is getting more confusing, and I think I am leaning toward a complete nuke of all ATI related software and then a fresh install of the software.

If I go this route, are there specifics that I need to remove that would not be removed by the un-install?

Thanks for ANY help you can give.

The problem with trying to go back to a previous version of
software is that many shared files (dll's) are updated and
more than likely remain, even when installing the older version.

That and registry tweaks done by the install, and there you have your issue.

I'd use DriverCleaner and start over. Before installing MMC, make sure the WDM drivers are properly installed by checking device manager. Pay particular attention to the support software required like windows media encoder9 and updated DX, and make sure you install all the required ATI software as well (DAO / MDAC gets missed alot) I'd go with MMC 9.02.
