I got a low to mid 6000 on 3dmark2001 with the following setup
Catalyst drivers 4.2
AMD Duron 1.1 GHz
384MB PC133 RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB AGP
Doesn't that seem sorta low, 6kish even with my slow CPU? Are there any settings I should check to make sure everything is adjusted correctly? Also, I just got rid of an AGP GeForceFX 5200 128MB card, and that card had better FPS with Quake 2 than the 9800 Pro, does that sound right?
To add, before installing the Cat 4.2's, I used the latest version of driver cleaner, and cleared out the Cab files, then ran the driver cleaner, then rebooted and installed the Cat 4.2's.

I'll offer a more positive spin on your posting...Originally posted by: OCNewbie

Yes that DOES seem sorta low - even for a 1.1Ghz system. Did you COMPLETELY remove the OLD drivers before you installed your new 9800?Originally posted by: Shanti

Dude, you are running a fvcking Duron and PC133 RAM. That 9800 Pro is totally worthless in that system. It's being choked to death.
I get around 7k scores with my GeForce 3 Ti200 on an Athlon XP 1700 with PC2100 DDR.
I hope you only got the 9800 Pro because you will be upgrading everything else soon too. Otherwise it's a waste of money. You would probably get the same performance with a $50 video card instead of a $250 card.

And IF you OVERclock your CPU to at least 1.3Ghz, you will see some DRAMATIC performance increases.

I don't agree . . . although the CPU is definitely holding the GPU back, it shouldn't be so extremely low . . . my old 1.2Ghz Tualatin Celeron w/PC-133 and a Radeon 8500 did better than 6k in 3DMark2001.Originally posted by: Xenon14

His scores reflect his machine. The 9800 is pulling all the weight on those numbers. Both the CPU(crippled cache & low mhz) and Ram (slow oldschool pc133) have NO bandwidth, not to mention old mobo. A $300 investment into Epox 8Rda+ (~$85)/2500+(~$85)/512ddr ram(~$85) would (at least) double his current score.

I really wanted the BFG FX5900 with Call of Duty bundle but since nobody seems to sell it anymore this is looking like a winner. $200 is my absolute limit for new videocards.

But I would imagine they are samsung or hynix...
It's listed as "instant savings" in the CUSA ad. No mention of instant rebate. BB is yanking your chain. Go try again.Originally posted by: deepinya

The complete idiot at my Best Buy told me they dont EVER match instant rebates cause they also have instant rebates from time to time.
I tried to explain that "instant rebate" simply meant it was on sale and have matched it in the past. Then he tells me that those managers were wrong and shouldnt have matched instant rebates.
What a fcukin moron......I hate Best Buy and hope it rots in hell.

It may not work on your system, the 9800 Pro for reasons yet unknown make your mobo think you have no vid card attached and the system will not even POST. Asus boards with Via chipsets have had some success, but not all, and it looks like Abit owners are screwed altogether. Tech support has been saying it is a PSU or BIOS version problem, which it is not. Here are some links i hope you may find useful, notice the dates on the VIA webite thread..... this problem has been known of for EIGHT months and NOTHING has been done about it, they have not even aknowledged it...
