I got a low to mid 6000 on 3dmark2001 with the following setup

Catalyst drivers 4.2
AMD Duron 1.1 GHz
384MB PC133 RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB AGP

Doesn't that seem sorta low, 6kish even with my slow CPU? Are there any settings I should check to make sure everything is adjusted correctly? Also, I just got rid of an AGP GeForceFX 5200 128MB card, and that card had better FPS with Quake 2 than the 9800 Pro, does that sound right?

To add, before installing the Cat 4.2's, I used the latest version of driver cleaner, and cleared out the Cab files, then ran the driver cleaner, then rebooted and installed the Cat 4.2's.

WOW you have a nice videocard but crappy everything else! =)

Dude, you are running a fvcking Duron and PC133 RAM. That 9800 Pro is totally worthless in that system. It's being choked to death.
I get around 7k scores with my GeForce 3 Ti200 on an Athlon XP 1700 with PC2100 DDR.

I hope you only got the 9800 Pro because you will be upgrading everything else soon too. Otherwise it's a waste of money. You would probably get the same performance with a $50 video card instead of a $250 card.

I'll offer a more positive spin on your posting...

When I lived in Orlando, I'd often go to the Atlamonte Springs mall 'cause the girls there were pretty hot (and there were no tourists).

Yes that DOES seem sorta low - even for a 1.1Ghz system. Did you COMPLETELY remove the OLD drivers before you installed your new 9800?

And IF you OVERclock your CPU to at least 1.3Ghz, you will see some DRAMATIC performance increases. ;)

I went to bestbuy and they would only pricematch the $70 IR and would not take 10% off coupon Waste of my time, I got it at Comp, I went to CC and same thing as BB only Pricemath the $70 not the $30 MIR, So I ended up Paying $217 After rebate At Comp. Worth it to me considering the retail BBA has 3 year Warranty and a better Resell Value than the Sapphire.

The complete idiot at my Best Buy told me they dont EVER match instant rebates cause they also have instant rebates from time to time.

I tried to explain that "instant rebate" simply meant it was on sale and have matched it in the past. Then he tells me that those managers were wrong and shouldnt have matched instant rebates.

What a fcukin moron......I hate Best Buy and hope it rots in hell.

His scores reflect his machine. The 9800 is pulling all the weight on those numbers. Both the CPU(crippled cache & low mhz) and Ram (slow oldschool pc133) have NO bandwidth, not to mention old mobo. A $300 investment into Epox 8Rda+ (~$85)/2500+(~$85)/512ddr ram(~$85) would (at least) double his current score.

I don't agree . . . although the CPU is definitely holding the GPU back, it shouldn't be so extremely low . . . my old 1.2Ghz Tualatin Celeron w/PC-133 and a Radeon 8500 did better than 6k in 3DMark2001. :p

And overclocking by 20 or so percent would give some nice performance increases . . . it's free and worth trying if he can't spend the $300 to upgrade the rest of his rig.

. . . AND . . . if he didn't clean out his OLD nVidia drivers, he is gonna have a low score no matter which CPU he has. :p

Does this one come with the HL2 coupon? I just checked the online inventory and the CompUSA near me has these in stock.

I really wanted the BFG FX5900 with Call of Duty bundle but since nobody seems to sell it anymore this is looking like a winner. $200 is my absolute limit for new videocards.

Can you pricematch to BestBuy ? No rebate needed ?

Edit, just saw they only do the IR ... :(

" Hyundai memory chips "

Are you sure they aren't Hynix 2.8ns? If these are anything besides Samsung or Hynix 2.8ns ...then this deal sucks, get the sapphire or powercolor at newegg...

But I would imagine they are samsung or hynix...

Well I saw the HY on the mem modules, and I just assumed Hyundai. I had heard about a lot of the Sapphire cards using Samsung modules, but I forgot any mention of Hynix modules used. Knowing that Hynix is what these usually are, then these must be Hynix chips (I assume).

Also, in regards to my 6188 3dmark2001 score on my admittedly paltry CPU, I'm gonna post a new thread in the Video forums in case anybody can add some input. I have some questions about my setup there.

It's listed as "instant savings" in the CUSA ad. No mention of instant rebate. BB is yanking your chain. Go try again.

Same thing in Fresno, BB would only match the -$70 not the MIR... My Ti4200 is still OK until newegg drops their prices.

Guess so... I was expecting to pay $222 being the %10 difference but they price matched the entire deal. I printed out the web ad for the video card deal, and I highlighted the IR not the MIR. I also printed to show that it was in stock at my local CUSA. The kid called the manager and PM the entire package. I may have to go hit up the other CC tonight and get a second card for my kids machine.

If any of your mobo's have a VIA chipset, use caution... It may not work on your system, the 9800 Pro for reasons yet unknown make your mobo think you have no vid card attached and the system will not even POST. Asus boards with Via chipsets have had some success, but not all, and it looks like Abit owners are screwed altogether. Tech support has been saying it is a PSU or BIOS version problem, which it is not. Here are some links i hope you may find useful, notice the dates on the VIA webite thread..... this problem has been known of for EIGHT months and NOTHING has been done about it, they have not even aknowledged it...
