ATI 9700NP or GF5700Ultra for ~170$?

I'm trying to decide on a video card right now - which of the two cards mentioned above is more worthy? BOth cards as I've stated run for about 170$ in a certain store I won't mention, and I've looked up benchmarks for both cards. My other thought is that the 5700 Ultra, from what i've read, can overclock like a monster. I've done tests with the ATI card mentioned (I have one right now), and I've come up with the following:

275/275 --> 305/300
3dmark01: ~14700
3dmark03: ~4500

I'd like to hear a wide range of options - including whether the GF is a better value, if it would be a better value since (or if) it overclocks as well as I've heard, whether it'd be more worth my money/time to get a more efficient cooling system for the 9700, etc. I was thinking of returning the 9700np to snag a 5700Ultra... thanks!

Dude, I have a 9700 Pro and I get your 3dmark 01 and 03 scores. Keep the 9700.

NO ONE SHOULD EVER BUY A 5700ULTRA. IT HAS GOT TO BE THE WORST BANG FOR THE BUCK CARD OUT THERE.

<------done ranting.

What rock have you been under for the past couple of years?

The 9700 and the 5700 are in two distinct performance classes.

O/C the the 5700 all you want, it won't touch the 9700.

For the same money, the choice is obvious.

9700. It should be faster with both AA+AF and DX9. It's a better short- and long-term investment, IMO.

the 5700u WAS a great card for the midrange, and at a time it WAS the best in its' class, but it is a COLLOSAL WASTE OF MONEY, you can get a 5900 for $165, and oc it to 5900u speeds, that is the course you should prolly pursue. But if you get the 9700 pro, you will be happy with that too, you can't go wrong with that card 😀 A 5700u will only be a good buy if the proce drops to like $125, $200 dollars just isn't feasable right now when compared to higher end cards that sell for less.

DAMMIT, LISTEN TO SNEAKY! Spend the same amount, or possibly 10$ more, and get a 5900 and much more bang for the dollar.

I'd like to hear a wide range of options
There is no opinion here, only fact. And the fact is that the 9700 NP is totally superior to the 5700U. In fact the 9700 NP plays well even with the 59xx series.

keep the 9700. if you're dead set on trading it for something, get an 5900nu as it's faster and less expensive then either of the cards you mention. just don't buy it from gameve.com 😛
