ATI 9600XT AIW $79.99 OEM No Rebates

From what others have said, it looks like it's not even clocked like a 9600 XT so don't expect 9600XT performance.

Anyone know what the "DG" in 9600XT DG stands for?

I always thought the AIW 9600XT was clocked faster than the regular 9600XT.

I got one from fry's, It does not have a remote, it does have cables, and it is not an XT version. "

🙁 $80 for an OEM is way too much.

If your last vacation for this was not enough, I can arrange it so you have an entire week to study and understand it.

Read the rules again.

What about COURTESY?

No thread crapping. If the subject matter of a deal does not interest you, do not post negative comments about it, or about other members, in the thread.

It would not be threadcrapping if the person could produce a similar product on another site for a lower price. that would be comparison shopping. Fatwallet lets you rate threads and posts ... should that be considered threadcrapping?

As far as the speeds and whether it's an 'XT' this has been discussed for various video cards over the last decade. It is the same situation as the 'Geforce2 Pro' that was not clocked as fast as a Geforce2 Pro. They can pretty much name the card whatever they want as long as they are truthful about the chip int it. This may in fact be an 'XT' chip clocked differently. Towards the end of a product cycle the yields get better and they wind up with a surplus of chips qualified at higher speeds... Now the problem is... who the hell would want a 9600XT? it's dated and in hindsight no one can justify the price difference between a 9600 pro and 9600 XT based in performance comapred to what's offered today. People only pay the mad premiums on XT's when they first come out because they're the absolute fastest. So Ati/manufacturers know this and want to preserve their food chain keeping people buying new products whil still selling off the remainder of the old... At the same time they don't want the remainder of the old outperforming their current value because they'll wind up with a huge surplus of their CURRENT value line. It's all economics.

So what do they do ? They take the high clockable old chips and stick them in subpar cards and lower the clockspeed a bit while still calling it an 'XT' to create a new 'pricepoint' that will get them sold without hurting sales of current valueline products. People who want the 'name' will buy it and peopel who want the slightly faster latest and greatest will buy the newer value line.

You're absolutely correct. All he/she had to do is link or tell us ATHDers where we could get the same deal for less money. That is not threadcrapping. That's doing us all a favor, and most of us appreciate that sort of info. Just dropping in to tell us something is too expensive is threadcrapping.

I don't think continuos posturing on the subject is getting anywhere. Obviously the way it was said was perceived to be threadcrapping....amen.

I'd concur it is too much you could get a used 9800pro AIW Used for not much more.

if they are 'unnecesasry extras' then this is not the type of card you are shopping for *rolls eyes*.

I wouldn't want to buy a car with all those unnecessary extras like doors and a roof when I could just buy a motorcycle or boat instead.

see how stupid that sounds ? 🙂

Do you actually think that this card is being recomended to someone who doesn't want a TV tuner? And lets see you show us a 6800 new for $79 anyway. This card is for people who want the TV/FM tuner, multimedia software and a graphics card that can handle media center use. This card is a good deal for that, but no one said it was a gaming card................ And to the guy who said he'd rather have a used 9800PRO for a lttle more money; some of us want our stuff new with a warranty and don't want to risk our cash. Something new vs something better but used and more expensive is incomparable....
