ATI 9600 overclocked. Check this out.

I work at a computer shop. We do carry Emachines. There is a new model that comes with a 64bit Athlon along with a 9600 or maybe pro.

Anyway I wanted to test its raw performance right out of the box. I got a 9752 , 3dMark2001 score. Now I loaded Rage3d to see how well the 9600 would overclock. Stock it ran 324/202 and scored that 9752. Then I overclocked to about 360/225 and scored around 10500. So I kept upping the speed and watching the first benchmark screen for artifacts but they never came. I ended up MAXING the sliders all the way to the right which was 436/265(give or take 5mhz) and the benchmark ran perfect with not 1 artifact or hickup. I ended up with a 12,500 score right out of the box. I ran it for a hour with no issues. That is the craziest overclock I have ever seen. My 9700pro only runs max now at 389mhz/337(which I know is comparing apples to oranges) and suprised me to see me able to just max out the overclock program. I was expecting to see serious artifacts and even lock ups but it never did. Man... crazy little emachine.

O give me a break. How come people read things and get way off the damn point. I was trying to explain that fact that the video card with STOCK cooling went from 325mhz to 436mhz and 200mhz to 265mhz. A huge performance gain for overclocking. I have never seen a card overclock like that without artifacts or locking up. I was NOT comparing systems you tard, just mentioning the crazy overclock. This had nothing to do with the 64bit Athlon.


And no I do not overclock and then sell them to people, why the hell would I want to deal with more damn computer issues. I was setting up a damn display model and had a extra 15mins to check it out before I put it on display. I unistalled the program and put it back to stock.

Sure you can, because NV has a pile of cheats in 3Dmark2001. Reduce your score on a 4200 by about 14%?(multiply x .86).

That?s a very nice overclock. At those speeds its very close to a 9600 pro in performance.

What brand 9600 is it?

hey buddy, since i own a 4200 doesnt make me a "fanboy". if i had a choice of any video card right now it would be an ATI. both brands are fine with me. nvidia isnt the only one that cheated, ATI was also proven to cheat too. learn the facts before you try to start a flame war.

I have to agree here. Seems who's cheating all depends on when you're talking and which program/game. As far as I understand both companies have "optimized" their drivers in the past. And even with the screenshots as proof I have a hard time telling which ones are lower IQ. Both companies make good cards. Which is best for you depends on which games you play. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it Nvidia for OpenGL and ATI for Direct3D?
