ATI 7000 question

I have someone's computer and it's Asus board gives me a beep code of 13, meaning that either there is no video card, it's RAM is bad or it needs to be re-seated. The board in question is an A7V8X-X and it's AGP slot is 8x. The video card has stickers on the back identifying it as a Radeon 7000 32 BM TVO. The mostly torn off sticker on the bracket says (partially) that it's a GeForce MX4___ V_ (underscores are where unreadable characters should be). If it's a 7000 then it's a 2x/4x card that has been in an 8x slot. Would being in an 8x slot have ruined it in the two or three months it's been running?

4x and 8x gear MUST, by definition of the AGP 8x mode, be inter-operable. That's not what killed it.

Hmmm, well then, maybe it just died for no good reason. Oh well, at least I know the computer does work; I put an ancient PCI card in and am now in the process of reprogramming it to alleviate the spyware/adware/trojan/virus problem.
Thanks,
Barry

Your saying the card says it's a Radeon 7000 AND a Geforce MX ?

That'd be kinda difficult. I too ran a Radeon 7500 in an A7V8X-X with no problems.

Yeah, I know. What I'm thinking is that the guy "borrowed" the bracket from another video card when making this computer. I'm inclined to believe the stickers on the PCB instead. That would make it a Radeon 7000 32MB TVO.
