nice. hopefully my card will be waiting on the porch when I get home. wife is out of town for thanksgiving...overclocking and benchmarking will commence...

you would think that they would at least have the 3870 listed in their gpu list on the amd website. It's only the best thing they've come out with in years and might actually give the company a bright spot to distract everybody from the s**t that is phenom.

usually newegg ships in no time, 5 days is a record for me. however, I wasn't mad b/c it's thanksgiving and I knew that everybody and his dog ordered a 3870 that day so nbd.

get this. my dlp lamp went out on my samsung 61" tv mon. yesterday my wife tells me that we have to have a replacement by weds afternoon so I ordered one from electrified.com. It was $140 for the bulb and $73 for shipping. It's waiting on my porch right now. That poor dlp bulb went to 2 different locations in CN last night, then Illinois, then dallas, then houston, then victoria, then out for delivery to my house, all between 5pm yesterday and 8 am this morning. I guess I got my $73 worth...

hopefully the problem is really the bulb and not the tv.

Make sure to wear some gloves when you handle that bulb. The oils from your hands will heat up and the bulb will explode.

YIKES! thanks for the warning. this has the entire assembly so I should be gtg. I've already changed it once on my 4yr old tv and once on my mom's dlp, too. Fortunately I ordered the entire assembly both times so I just kept doing that. I think that it's worth the extra couple $$$ to not have to worry about real explosions occuring in the tv...

Boooo

Anyone know if there are any performance increases with these new drivers, or just fixes for issues in some games?

Does the DX10 mode in Hellgate: London really have better IQ and performance yet?

I recall the developers saying some such thing.

From what I heard on rage3d forums from beta testers, Catalyst driver releases are actually developed and in a nearly final state months before public release. The QA process (i.e. intensive testing on real hardware) is what delays the actual release so much. So basically any hotfix would have to be backported to work with a much older development branch of the driver code. I have no idea how complicated this would be, for it would depend entirely on how Catalyst driver code is organized and who works on what.

Well the IQ is much better in my opinion. The water on the walls and in pools on the ground just look awesome and there is a slightly more crisp look to everything.

The performance feels about equal to DX9 (maybe slightly better) I think, but it is most definitely not worse.

it is not that hard.

Of course it's not that hard!! They're just being *lazy* and don't want to do it...

Sheesh!

As I've read previously (and from nullpointerus' post), the catalyst drivers are "set in stone" weeks if not months before the previous driver is released. So it may take some time for updates to make it into the drivers..

Say 7.11, and 7.12 are "feature complete" and are just going through final testing, and you want them to add the crysis hotfix... they'd then have to re-code both 7.11 and 7.12 and then go through testing again to make sure they didn't break anything...

Not to mention it may delay the release of the driver or make them push it out quicker and have a bug-ridden driver (and of course *no one* would complain about that would they!)

Anyone know if the 7.11s are usable for an AGP X1950PRO? I'm still on 7.2 and want to update them.

Performance is slightly worse with DX10 on my rig :p
-i had to lower some details [shadows to med/no AA] to equal DX9 performance

frankly, the water at the bottom of the tunnels looks more "realistic" in DX9, but DX10 has the cool shadows and particle effects and smoke

and damn is this game getting *hard* on nightmare level ... my Summoner gets pitted against demons 10 levels above him ... it takes all 11 elementals Plus the Enraged Creature to take down a single NPC ... in about 2 minutes [better hope his friends don't show up]

That's funny, I was just thinking I should able to bump a few settings up in DX10. I also love the look of the water and smoke, and just the overall environment now.

Anyway, going to roll my Summoner tonight and see how it goes...

Good luck with nightmare! :p

no .. i had to lower some ... the water now looks too "shiny" and the ripples are all wrong ... DX9's water is clearly superior [understated like real "water"] ... the *rest* of the DX10 effects are subtle and make little difference imo [is there motion blur?]

and i am putting it away - today ... Nightmare is stupidly hard ... *tedious*
... unless they patch it and respec it, forget it

hoping for a Hg:L expansion
--my final verdict on Hg:L:
7.8/10 for SP [4/10 for MP]

fun and addicting but flawed ... badly flawed

Yeah, according to a lot of forum posters, Nightmare is broken, but according to the devs it is working as intended. Either way I doubt I will ever try it.

AGP and ATI drivers

This is related to the poster with a question related to his AGP x1950PRO. I have a ATI AGP X800 AIW and driver release 7.8 was the last release that worked with a lot of AGP (going by what ive seen on many site forums) cards. 2d works fine on all the recent display driver releases however 3d does not work for most games. Whatever they added to 7.9 to support newer games like Quake Wars and Bio Shock nerfed AGP cards for any older games. If I install 7.9 to 7.11 display drivers I can play quake wars or demo's of new games, however all my older games will not work (ie: CSs, DODs, HL2 games, DOW, COH, EVE-online, etc) It's erking me because ATI as far as I can see has not admitted to the problem and when you download drivers the release notes make no mention of the problem...

So for now I?m running 7.8 and can play all my games except newer titles like quake wars. I plan on building a new system by FEB 08, but bottom line I just wish ATI would admit the problem or stop saying they still support card ranges that include AGP versions and just say hey AGP users stick with 7.8 or 3rd party drivers.

lOUD!!!
