ATI 650 Tuner

I'm done playing 1280x720p (PS3) on my 20" while my 30" dell is just sitting there.

Does the ATI 650 support 1080p and how bout that older HDTV wonder.

No one's currently broadcasting in 1080p, so 1080p support for an HDTV tuner would be irrelevant at this point.

I mean if i plug in my PS3 can i get 1080P out of that tuner.

im not sure about whether you can or not, but sometimes theres an input delay....might not want to put a ps3 into a 650...

The tuner (along with all other current HDTV tuners) does not have Component or DVI/HDMI video inputs, if that's what you're getting at. It is possible to get PCI-E capture cards with Component inputs, but I don't know if they support 1080p, and they're rather expensive anyway. The only way you're realistically going to get an HD signal in real-time from a game console (or other consumer electronics device) is to plug it directly into your monitor, assuming your monitor has the appropriate inputs.

Not really relevant what kind of video card you have, actually, at least in regards to the 650. I have the 650 and OTA HD looks amazing, but the only inputs are coax, composite, and s-video, so there's no way you're going to be able to get an HD signal from the PS3 into the card, no matter what video card you have.

Like I said, it's completely relevant. Take an X1950XTX for example... it has components inputs.

why do you want feed TV OTA tuner?
Can you connect PS3 to your 30" dell directly?
What your 30" monitor provides?
1080p? via hdmi? dvi? component?

btw - 650 can accept up to 1080i OTA only. And it doesn't have any video outputs, video card does.

AFAIK the X1950XTX has component outputs but not inputs, correct me if I'm wrong...

I'm 99% sure that you're right (I used to have an X1900XT). It had Component outputs; the only inputs that I remember were S-Video and Composite (480i max).

Text <--Cheapest one I could find (where "cheap" means "around $200"), and it only supports 480i over Component, which I'd say is next to pointless (it's not HD obviously). Standard PCI card.

This one seems to have Component/HDMI inputs and also (one of the models) seems to support 1080p as an input resolution. It is a PCI-E card and will run you $1000 (or more, depending on which of the models) - to say nothing of the massive RAID arrays you'll need if you actually want to record/capture uncompressed HD video (as opposed to simply viewing it in real-time).

I may be missing something, but as another poster suggested - is there a reason you can't connect the PS3 directly to your 30" monitor? If I recall correctly the PS3 can output 1080p over HDMI, so all you should need is a $15 HDMI->DVI cable to connect it to your 30" (which is more than capable of displaying 1080p of course). Of course you'd still have to handle audio separately (and that may be the problem), but I'd think it should work...

HDMI doesn't support dual-link I think, which is what the Dell 30" needs.

The Dell 30" native resolution of 2560x1600 needs dual link, but 1080p doesn't. However, I've heard the HDMI output from the PS3 requires HDCP compliance, in which case it won't work on monitors that don't support that.
