This may help AMD to get into professional/workstation market in which it currently has almost no presence.

:eek:Even my old FGL X2s are still running fine... CUDA helped Quadro sales tremendously - I have several Quadro 5800s - but also pushed down their street prices a lot.

In case you're still wondering without relevant info: http://www.amd.com/us/products/workstation/graphics/Pages/workstation-graphics.aspx

They match pretty much everything NV has: 3D stereoscopic, 2GB framebuffer etc.

BTW I would buy a regular 5870 2GB card immediately for up to $50+ on top of 5870 1GB prices - extra memory always comes handy. :)

I play games on my triple monitor setup on eyefinity and love it...

6 screens would be TERRIBLE

You have the monitor perimeter right in the center of your field of view!

the eyefinity6 5870 was announced the same time 5870 and the rest of the cypress family was released. they even had working versions for the 6 monitor demos. there have been other threads here covering the eye6 version. same size card with 8 + 6 pin pcie power, 6 mini Dport connections only.

makes sense that it would need more power and 2gb mem for potential 6 monitor resolutions with eyecandy. the only real downside is that the current drivers dont allow for 5 by 1 setup(i.e. super panorama). but for the flight sim crowd, there is 3 by 1 with a 4th monitor over the middle monitor for extra heads up.(looks like the upsidedown "T" shaped tetris piece.)

Is it reasonable to assume that 40nm supplies are getting better now that these more "niche" oriented cards are surfacing? Good to see some different products hit the streets. I'm curious if these "newer" 5870's overclock any better than the ones released in September.

yes. only the top & center/bottom monitor would be the same size and span the view up/down as well as left/right. flight sim gamers could do circle of death and see the enemy and hud at the same time.

That would be very cool indeed. I disassembled the quad setup in favor of a 3007wfp hc and the 2407wfp. I would love to get my hands on one of these 2 gb cards.

I'd like to see them reduce the price of the 5850's back to MSRP instead of dicking around with these 2GB cards, but that's just me I guess.

It's not just you, I agree. Both the 5850 and 5870 are still more expensive now than when they launched.

...although in all honestly, that is part of the reason I sold my 5870. Nothing like making a few $$$ in exchange for playing around with the newest tech. I was sort of hoping for the possibility of picking up a cheaper replacement sooner. Might as well wait for Fermi to see what NV has to offer at this rate.

Are they asking $900 for that thing? Holy crud thats expensive! Of course if you are running 6 or 9 LCDs I guess an extra $900 isn't that much in the grand scheme of things.
