ATI 11.10 Drivers = Overscan on HDTV

I have a Vizio 42" (V042) that I've been running off my laptop for over two years. A G73jh with a 5870 through HDMI.

When updating to 10.11 I noticed the overscan slider is set to maximum and is grayed out so I cannot adjust it.

Switching resolutions down to 1280x720 gives it back but no other resolution does.
Rolling back driver also gives it back.

I've tried every setting I can think of and also only updating the driver and not CCC and same effect.

The result is it's overscanned so I can not see the outside borders of the screen, however on my laptop display everthing is fine. CCC picks up the model of the TV just fine it just seems to have broken the control for over and under scan.

I've looked at adding custom resolutions and with my luck heeded the warning about it possibly damaging your TV so I waiting hoping this is a widespread problem and AMD might have to fix.

Another thread with Hanspree TVs had a PC setting that fixed it for them, mine is just HDMI with no other settings on the TV.

Hmm not sure. I've been using my 5870 with every WHQL release since the 5870's launch day (10.3s?), no problems on my Samsung plasma with overscan.
Interesting the overscan slider is grayed out for you, if it's HDMI it shouldn't be. Try unplugging your TV, then restarting the PC, and plugging it back in..
if that doesn't work, do a clean uninstall of your drivers with DriverSweeper and reinstall. If its still broken, submit a support ticket http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D27E29B0E3 and roll back to 11.9.

Thanks for link, I submitted a ticket. I think I'm alone in the wilderness on this issue. Maybe I'll restore to a fresh system and check out what happens.

Just the other day I was able to adjust the overscan with my hd4870x2. This was on a 720p Hitachi plasma. You should be able to do it...?

i had that greyed out overscan problem intermittently as well. it's a combination of things (timing & ID mainly iirc) but (re)plugging and reboots can usually fix it.

Sadly 11.11 still has grayed out and overscanned image issue. Hearing a few others having the problem, but not many.

Thought it might be CCC related, as it controls the overscan slider and resolution over 1650 isn't possible without it, but older versions of CCC don't work either.

I'm wondering if I could hack the windows registry to go 1920x1080 somehow. Seems like it should be able to do that.

There is no "Just Scan" setting on the TV? I don't think I've ever seen a TV without this option. Hit the aspect ratio button on the remote.
