Athon XP 1800 motherboard using PC133 mem. only ?

I'm seeking advise on a motherboard for an Athlon XP 1800 using memory PC133 only (no DDR) and has ATA133 ? No onboard anything. I will be adding my own component.

You won't find ATA/133 on a PC133 board unfortunately, but you can get a PCI ATA/133 card. The top SDR board IMO is IWill KK266. it overclocks wonderfully, and was easily the best KT133A board.

Straight from the horses mouth...

The Iwill KK266 came in behind the Asus A7V133 in 3D gaming...but both were given a tie for the best KT133A motherboard.

I'll be running an Iwill kk266 for about another day. It truly is a great kt133a board. It allowed me to run a 160fsb at the fastest ram timings. As stable as any other board as well. Correct me if I'm wrong though, but i think you would be hindering that cpu with only sdram in your system. The XP cpu's are designed to be used in ddr systems, and the limited bandwidth of sdram will really hurt you. If you are having to buy a new mobo anyway, why not go for a ddr setup. The motherboards should be roughly the same cost. The ram will cost you more, but the added performance should make up for the added cost.

I don't think there are any PC133 mobos currently that support ATA133.

I currently have an Asus A7V133 (KT133a) with an AMD Athlon XP 1900+ and 512MB of PC133, but only ATA100.

Athlon XPs aren't Intel P4s. 🙂

They weren't designed around DDR RAM. They work better with it because of overall system performance increase, but not that the Athlon XP is DDR RAM dependant. An Athlon XP 1600+ will only perform a small percentage better than a Thunderbird 1.4GHz will with DDR RAM, mainly because of the Athlon XP architecture (full SSE, etc).

DDR RAM only improves system performance...my Asus A7V133 would work fine with an Athlon XP.

Look for the Iwill KK266+ . I own this motherboard and it has given me everything I could ask for and more. 100% stability (yes, that is not a typo!), great overclocking, excellent memory bandwidth.

I have 2x256 cl2 7ns pc133 crucial stick with fsb@150 . My sandra 2001 mem scores were Int ALU 682 MB/s : Float FPU 702 MB/s. I kick almost any pre-sis 735 DDR chipset's ass! And that's only @150 fsb 🙂

BTW, I run an XP 1700+ @1650. (11*150). BUY THIS MOTHERBOARD, it will be the best 100 bucks you'll ever spend.

Thank you for everyone advise. I was trying to cut cost by using my existing 392MB PC133 memory in the new Athlon XP board, but I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get the Soyo Dragon Plus board and go with DDR memory.
