After reading the forum on amdmb and calling up Crucial about the situation, I was told that they were aware of the "small percentage" of those having the same problem (seemingly, in just PC2700 512MB sticks). I was given the option of having a pair of 256MB instead and being credited the difference, return for a refund, or their PC3200 DIMMs and charged for any difference. Luckily, I bought my pair of 512MB prior to the price drop so the cost covered the amount I paid for, and then some. The new RAM is on the way and I'll post more info afterwards. Now to look for that memtest program.....

My AthlonXP2100 is TBred B steping 0302.

I did some test on my Epox 8RDA+, My ram is PC2100 from Micron. Can push FSB too high.
My heatsink is SLK-800 with 80mm 2800 RPM fan.

13X166 stable at 1.65V
13.5X166 stable at 1.75V, Prime95 reports error when Vcore is 1.725V.

14X166 not stable with 1.775V, Can boot into window2000, Prime95 reports error

MBM actutally show Vcore 0.05V higher than what I set. I don't want to go to too high.

I am current set it 13X166 at 1.65Vcore, CPU temperature usually 35C, loaded 40-42C.

What kind of cooling are you guys using? I can only hit 2000mhz at 50c idle with my xp1700+ tbred-b (0302). I'm using a stock amd hsf (aluminum with green fan). I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading to something like an slk-800...$35 is alot of money for a little heatsink tho.

Anyone know how to get the 14x multi on a 2100+ and 8K3A+? I can get virtually every multi from 13x to 18x but no 14x damnit! 14x would be perfect as my cpu seems to really like the 2.3GHz range. btw, using 2815 BIOS as my system hangs at the HPT372 BIOS using the 2B01 BIOS.

It's not a bug, the 8K3A is one of the few boards that reports the temp from the internal diode. Naturally temps will be 10 degrees higher off the bat than reports from the in-socket thermistor. Anything under 65 degrees is good for an internal diode temp. After the 8K3A, EPoX decided to only report temps from the in-socket thermistor because retards would e-mail EPoX with questions of why their temps were so high and thus rob real problems of solving time.

There are also variations in different boards that can make it impossible to directly compare temps.

That said, I was seeing idle temps with my 8K3A + Palomino at 1800MHz & 1.95v cooled by an SLK-800 and Tornado @ 4,000rpm of about 48 degrees, full load approaching 60 degrees. Not a single hiccup.

I've done additional reading, and from what I see the NF7-S might need a bios upgrade to display accurate temps. Just for reference my idle temp is 50C, and quite frankly I know that is not accurate.

Got my 2100+ to 2800+ speed (2283 MHz) - (169FSB x13.5Multi), optimum settings. VCore @ 1.70, getting CPU temp 35 C (idle). I'll probably get 2400 MHz stable with PC3200 DDR. Not bad for a refurb 2100+ I got for $69 from Newegg. 🙂

What board is that? I can't get the 13.5x or 14x multi's on my 8K3A+ and it's driving me crazy. I know the board unlocks the higher multi's because I can get the stock 13x by leaving the BIOS setting at "Auto" and I can get any setting 15x and above (setting in BIOS + 8 = desired multi, for example "7" = 15x, "8" = 16x, etc.). I even booted cleanly and stabily to 2.4GHz (133*18) @ 1.75v, but damnit I can't boot to anything 14x (6x and 6.5x in BIOS will not POST, not even 133 FSB) 🙁

Following up with an update... RAM arrived on Wednesday. Installed it and booted into memtest86. Ran default test at PC2100 speed with no error. I was about to run it in PC2700 but since the RAM I received is rated at PC3200/DDR400, I set it to that speed and ran the default test. No errors. But I wasn't done yet. I wanted to make sure it truly is usable. So I set memtest86 to run the extended test. God that took forever. It found no errors. So I was good to go. Now for some interesting tidbits...

The PC2700 pair I received from them were Crucial's/Micron's own DRAM chips. It didn't surprise me much when I found that the PC3200 sticks weren't Crucial DRAM chips. Instead, they're Samsung's DRAM.

Well, they match up quite nicely and they run at the rated speed. So now as I typed this, prime95 is running, temp is at 42c/107f (for the moment, case is open since I'm planning on doing some minor modding), and system is at 2700+ speed (166x13) and using default voltage (1.6v).

Needless to say, a user should not have to go through the hassle of replacing RAM. Well, Crucial's customer support is good to me. And getting faster memory didn't cost me a dime (the irony, having saved by the high price of PC2700 512MB memory when I purchased it). I wonder if I should try hitting 200MHz FSB.............. naaaah...
