Greetings!

I'm using Athlon 900Mhz with ASUS A7V8X-X. I just bought a 2nd hand proc (AthlonXP 2000) and tried it with the same system but it doesn't boot. The HSF is running by the way. Is there some jumpers that I need to set first in my motherboard so that I can use the AthlonXP 2000? Or do you guys have any suggestions that I can do to troubleshoot the problem further?

Thanks!

Observe the third and fourth photos here and try unplugging the computer and clearing the CMOS. If that doesn't work then would you go ahead and post full specs including the brand & model of the power supply, and what core your 2000+ uses (Palomino, Thoroughbred or Thorton).

hmm i skimmed thru the users guide here but nothing i saw led me to belive it was anything to do with jumpers. was the system being used right up to the upgrade or was it sitting around for a while? where did you get the CPU? any way for you to test it in anouther rig?

The AthlonXP 2000 (the processor in question) is for the upgrade. I got the processor from another person. Unfortunately, I don't have any other RIG in my place. Do you have any suggestions?

did you follow mechBgon link and make sure everything was seated right? also check and make sure the ram has come loose.what exactly do you mean by not boot, does it turn on but all you get is a blank screen or is there no signs of life at all? might want to try completely takeing it apart only leave the PSU and the mother board in the case. take everything else out. then add in peice by piece and see what happens. vid card first, hard drive, sound card....

I followed the link provided by mechBgon and everything is seated right. What I mean by my system not booting up is that I only have a black screen (while the PSU and HSF are running). My ram, monitor, video card and other parts seems to be ok since I tried installing my Athlon 900MHz again and it still works with the same system.

Ok, can you post your full specs and can you tell me what processor core that 2000+ is using :)

@mechBgon
Ok. I'll give you my full specs when I get home. However, I think the core of AthlonXP 2000 is Thoroughbred.

Ok, and don't forget the power supply brand and model when you post that :) If the new CPU happened to be a Thorton-core 2000+ then you would also need at least BIOS revision 1004, according to Asus's CPU-support thingie.

If it were the Thoroughbred or Palomino core, however, you're covered with any BIOS revision and the issue may lie elsewhere. Or maybe the CPU's bad.
