For those that care, GamePC claims to have the OEM AthlonXP 2000+ (1.67GHz) in stock and available for sale right now. It's priced at $425 from them.

Linky

AMD's official release date remains at January 17.

Holycow, those prices are getting up there.
One hell of a processor though, I'll have to stick with my 1700+ for a while.

Almost $200 more than Athlon XP1900+ for mere 66.6MHz increase in frequency. I think I'll pass. Heck, if I had an XP1900+ right now, I wouldn't even bother installing 2000+ even if I was given one for free, because 66MHz inprovement is simply not worth putting the machine out of service, unplug everything, remove the PSU(I have to in order to get to heatsink clamp), remove the HS and replace the processor.

GamePC.com is usually a little pricey though, so I wouldnt compare this price to that which you'd find via PriceWatch or even what we may see other stores selling them at.
So going by GamePC's pricing it's actually only a little more then $100 more then the 1900+.

I mostly mentioned it as a curiosity that it's apparently hitting the shelves already, long before it's due to officially launch.
I'm sure most other vendors will price it much more realistically as it becomes more easily available.

Actually, Jerry Sanders was right on his word, when he told CNET that the 2000+ would be selling before 2002 but right after the X-mas season. He was right.

I also agree with you that this price will likely go down to the mid to low $300 range soon after it's launch.

I would wait myself, since I am considering very badly an AMD XP system anyhow.

This "new" processor is much too expensive now. I will wait to pick that one up and maybe a Gforce 4 card to go with it!! ehehe.
