I suggest you look for yourself. Check Newegg or other online retailers. Popular 64 OCing mobo brands are MSI and DFI.

Most are on pre-order, so you might have to wait a week or so. As for motherboards, all Socket 939 boards support X2, but I would suggest:

- EPoX 9NPA+ Ultra
- DFI LANParty NF4 Ultra-D
- Abit AN8 Ultra

For motherboard, it really depends on whether or not you want to go with a pci-e or agp graphics card. I would recommend pci-e just for future proofing yourself, unless you have a high end agp card you'd like to continue using.

Duvie, looks like you have a dual-core - do you do any video editing and how does it perform? what are your overall impressions?

thanks -

newbie:

okay whats the deal with PCI-E vs AGP now?

who are the pci-e makers? I assume Nvidia?
who are the agp makers? I asume ATI?

what made you to conclude that pci-e is the way of the future?

Both ATI and Nvidia have PCI-e vid cards and chipset to run pci-e cards.....They both have AGP. The fcat is pci-e will become the defacto standard and we are phasing out of AGP slot...

okay than. so with that in mind.

what are the top 2 ati PCI-E cards?
what are the top 2 Nvidia PCI-E cards?

so I can look at those and now I need to make sure the mobo is pci-e support i assume.
i keep scratching off my list of what i need to get heheehe.

FACT:

19inch monitor
2 1gig DDR ram.. most likely OCZ, perferably Kingston or Crosair.
250 gig HD Maxtor vs seagate
450+ PSU

I cant decide on a mobo cause I cant decide on the processor
I cant decide on the video card since I cant decide on the mobo.

D'OH!

@Novercalis:

ATI:
Radeon X850XT PE
Radeon X850XT

nVidia:
Geforce 7800GTX
Geforce 6800 Ultra

All of them are extremely powerful. The 7800GTX is currently the fastest chip, with the X850XT PE coming in close behind. I would stay away from them though, since they're all incredibly expensive. The Radeon X800XL is only about ~$260, but it will play any game at high resolutions with pretty high AA/AF. It's a great bang for your buck.

Dont skimp on the Neo 2 if you need some solid AGP support!!!!

I have an X2 3800+ on the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum - works like a champ! Board needed bios upgrade, but it did give me the chance to do it - you need to make a bootable floppy with the new bios on it.

thanks everyone for your input - I ended up going with the Epox and a new pci-e video card.... ugh... vid cards are expensive. I do video editing and in the reviews I read, the Epox beat out the DFI for encoding and general video manipulation jobs, like with After Effects. The DFI seemed to be slightly better for gaming, but Epox was a close second, so I went with Epox.

thanks again -

hey all -

i know this is old hat now, but I thought I'd just add one more comment - I got the Epox board and a 7800GT vid card - If anyone is planning on doing the same, be aware that any long PCI-express vid card like the 7800GT I got will interfere with a connector in the primary IDE connector.

I switched to SATA drives to get around the problem (and fortunately, the secondary IDE connector works fine without anything plugged into the primary), but if you have more than 2 IDE devices you want to use, you should be aware of this limitation.

I imagine you'll have the same problem with just about any PCI-express vid cards... not sure what Epox was thinking.

thanks for all your help -
