Anyone else running an athlon64 X2 processor and encountering trouble running games? I play LineageII and on my new system I constantly get a "negative delta time" error causing the game to crash. After the crash I am unable to reload the game until I reboot the computer.

I checked out AMD's support forums, just wanted to get some opinions here as well. Some suggestions were made to adjust the affinity setting in the task manager but I am unable to do that so far.

I'm just hoping AMD is aware of the problem and is working on a solution. Anyone having issues?

I don't have a dual core proc, but in your case I would try to disable one core in BIOS (if you have this option, of course).

If you encounter same problem again, then we can say that CPU is not cause of the problem.

you probably want to download some utiltity to automatically set the affinity of your game process to one of the procs or something. i dunno the details as i dont have a dualcore system, but ive read about it in some places. maybe this will point you in the right direction. good luck

I tried to isolate problem, to see if DC is making such issue. Of course with dual core, current gaming apps see no benefits, only multitasking is heavily improved, not to forget multithreaded apps.

Any idea how to disable one of the cores?

Ahhh I love my 3700+ SD, no problems with any games :p Anyways, to solve those problems you have to disable one of the cores, this problem happens in L2, Empire earth II, warcraft 3, lets keep increasing the list :D

hit ctrl-alt-delete or the windows key on the keyboard....go into task mangaer---find game exe running (probably showing 50% usage) and right click---set affinity---uncheck one of the cpus...

I can confirm that Flatout needed affinity set to 1 cpu or it would cause problems......Need4 speed 2 underground worked fine with both cpus set...

I've tried to adjust the affinity while running Lineage II and I get an "access denied" error, and it does not let me change it. I've checked it under different applications such as Ventrilo and I've gotten into the menu to deselect a core.

Is there a way to get around the "access denied?"

I'm running a dual core 4400+ and have no problems with anything so far. I play Halo mainly and Half Life...but no game problems.

Yeah entire computer is brand new. It sounds like the affinity setting change will do the trick, just the computer won't let me access it for that program. I may just "downgrade" to an amd athlon64 4000+ san diego and use windows XP pro if I can't get this fixed.

Anyone have a suggestion for such a utility?

This is SO not good news for me. I didn't realize the X2 was having so many issues.

HL2 and FC are 2 out of the 4 games I'm currently playing. :( I will just have to hope for the best.

Actually, since finding this handy little utility, I have had no problems running these problem games in single core mode and they still run very well. The A64 X2 4400 is a 2.2 GHz processor and I'm running it with a 7800 gtx. As an example, I can run Far Cry in single core mode with HDR lighting enabled and 8xAF at 1280x1024 with good performance.

Note that not all games have problems and most are running just fine. It's just a nice workaround to have handy until there are more patches available. In hindsight, it wouldn't have stopped me from buying dual core as I feel it is a more versatile processor for the future.
