I am running a micro atx MSI board with an athlon64 3000+ which I was hoping to overclock and put in the computer with my x850xt, but it was running really high temps with everest, so i took out the x850 to see if it was drawing too much power, but that appeared not to be the case, everything runs fine, including games with no overheat crashes yet, but I am very concerend, as the venice core usually runs much cooler. I am using the aspire 420w PSU that came with the case, and it is 20 pin, dont know if that is an issue or not, if it could be running hot due to low voltage, is there a way to check the voltage ratings with a program? I couldnt find it in my bois. Thanks in advance any help would be greatly appreciated.

Reseat the heatsink. Are you using the stock heatsink? Did you remove the plastic from the thermal pad?

Yes I have reapplied it several times, I used a zalman 7000 series heatsink and fan, and the stock, both resulted the same.

Burn in wont do me any good, I am running at stock speed, I havent tried OCing yet, I want to make sure this processor is running correctly before I do any of that, any other ideas? Is the PSU a possible problem?

ArticSilver.com

Important Reminder:
Due to the unique shape and sizes of the particles in Arctic Silver's conductive matrix, it will take a up to 200 hours and several thermal cycles to achieve maximum particle to particle thermal conduction and for the heatsink to CPU interface to reach maximum conductivity. (This period will be longer in a system without a fan on the heatsink or with a low speed fan on the heatsink.) On systems measuring actual internal core temperatures via the CPU's internal diode, the measured temperature will often drop 2C to 5C over this "break-in" or "burn-in" period. This break-in will occur during the normal use of the computer as long as the computer is turned off from time to time and the interface is allowed to cool to room temperature. Once the break-in is complete, the computer can be left on if desired.

It says that it will drop 2-5C but I was looking for it to drop more than that, the stock venice cores I have seen run about 10C lower, but maybe I got a lower grade chip since its the cheapest one, what temp in C could I be comfortable with, I am pretty much abandoning overclocking, is 45C acceptable? Thanks

Those temps seem a bit high and the zalman 7000 should give cooler results than the stock fan (I'm running a 3000+ w/ stock fan @38C idle and high 40s under load...in an air conditioned room). Is the zalman 7000 running at max speed?

I would get an ATX power supply, too.
