To make the long story short, I bent two pins from my Athlon64 3000+ cpu, I was able to straighten one of them but the other one broke, I am using it on my computer as I am typing this, my question is if this will affect the cpu in the long run.
The cpu runs fine for most of the time, but sometimes windows xp crashes and a high pitched sound comes from the speakers, maybe it has to do with the broken pin. I was thinking for some time to upgrade to an Athlon 64 3700+ (S754) for some time, this may be the time to do it.
I wouldn't pay the price premium for the 754 3700. It runs at 2400 hertz. For $35 shipped, newegg has an open box 754 3200 venice core running at 2200 hertz, which is a much better value.
For the past two days, a blue screen of death appears almost everytime, then I open the case and tighten the cpu and the BSOD dissapears, do you think the missing pin has anything to do with the problem?
If touching the CPU causes one of the symptoms of your problems to go away, they are probably related.
It's not that expensive to replace the CPU - you'll be better off ruling out any issues from then on. The computer ran fine prior to the bent pins, correct?
Another question, I purchased on on Ebay a S754 Athlon64 3700 for my computer but it has the mobile core, the vendor says it fits on most S754 motherboards, I have not made payment as I am unsure. Do you think it will fit on my motherboard? link
What makes you think this has the mobile core?
mobile cores do not have a heat spreader
what are you going to use for a HSF without a heat spreader?
check the numbers- most likely just a regular chip
which is good

I contacted Biostar and the motherboard supports up to the sempron 3100+ mobile and up to a regular A64 3700+ , good thing I didn't pay the item on Ebay.
