Hi, my FX55 is showing 89C under heavy load, is this normal? My cooler is a ZALMAN 7700B-CU.
PS: I'm not overclocked.

That's way too high...either a sensor is reporting inaccurate temps, or the software is, or something. If it were really that hot, it would probably shut down immediately...is the heatsink firmly applied correctly?

It really depends on your ambient temperatures. I have not personally used an Athlon 64 of any type (FX or otherwise), but generally you want your CPU temps to stay below 60-65C, the lower the better.

Dear God that can't be right, the thing would (should) throttle down. At 89C I would imagine it would just about cook.

How are you taking the temps?

52C under load or at idle. That is still too high! Maybe the sensor is off. Are the Asus readouts usually accurate? I thought maybe the ASUS temp readouts were prone to being higher than actual temps

Touch the HSF. Is it cool? Check AGAIN to see that correct contact is made between the heatsink and the processor. Press it... check it... DO SOMETHING! Those temps are NOT normal.

Yes, the ASUS readouts are prone to misreport the temps. Most likely the Temps are simply wrong, if you could get a thermocouple down in the heatsink, that could give you a better idea of the temps. Because as everyone has said, there is no way that is right, the CPU would have cooked by now. Max for that core I believe is about 70C

Make certain you remove the plastic cover on the thermal pad on your stock cooler, for a step further use AS5 on the core. Wipe a little on the cooler base and then rub in it. An FX55 with stock cooling should run about 40C or less at idle. Under load you should hit 49C maybe. You arent in the tropics with no AC are you?

My ambient temp is about 30C, and yes, I'm in the tropics, but fron now on I'll keep the AC turned on while I'm playing.
