Are all the chipsets for the Athlon64 setup for asynchronous memory operation? I have DDR333 memory, but I thought that the new chips needed DDR400...will my old DDR333 work? I realize it will increase latency, but I'm just a poor college student.

Yes you can run 333Mhz memory. It would be better to run at 400mhz, but you will be fine for now.
Also you can try and overclocking the ram. Try it at 400Mhz and set the Cas to 3 etc...
