I was thinking of building an Athlon64 3200+ system with a Shuttle AN50R mobo. I heard that these were possible to OC, and I might give it a shot. My question was what kind of memory would be the fastest I could get for it?

I was thining maybe this memory:

OCZ Enhanced Latency Series Dual Channel Kits 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200

Price is not a huge deal as long as it is in the general ballpark of the OCZ stuff.

I was looking for 1 gig of PC-3200+ DDR RAM. Here is what I was I got so far.

-AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 1 MB L2 Cache, the Only 64-bit Windows Compatible Processor - OEM
-Shuttle nForce3 150 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket 754 CPU, Model "AN50R"
-Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD740GD, OEM Drive Only
-Thermalright Copper Heatsink for both Intel and AMD, Model "SLK948U" -RETAIL
-Panasonic Panaflo Axial 92mm Ball Bearing Cooling Fan, Model "FBA09A12H" -OEM
-Thermaltake W0013 Silent Purepower 480W with Silver housing - Xaser Edition ATX 2-Fan Power Supply
-A-NTEC Silver Aluminum Performance 1 Series ATX Mid-Tower Case with Swiveling Front Control Panel features LED Display, Model "P160"

Any suggestions/ideas on anything I got specced out would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, someone that's actually considering the Shuttle... :)

Let me tell you something, this board is VERY overclockable. I am running 2.6 ghz right now and it's not breakin' a sweat (with prommy cooling).

I've heard though that lots of these boards (nforce3 chipset) have issues with running 1 gig of ram...

i am running 2 x 256 kingston bh-5's and it hasn't been a problem for me at all...

how high do you plan on going? because i've heard that the SATA craps out around 237 mhz due to lack of pci lock...

Hey shimmishim, with the new bios, is does Cool and Quiet work now? How about multiplier reducing adjustment? I heard those were made available with the recent bios for the AN50R, but many ppl claim that it doesn't work.

I have 2x512mb 3200DDR running it's rated speed no problems on the AN50R but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it holds back higher 1:1 overclocks. Cool&Quiet is useless to me because I run SETI 24/7, and lower multis are the anathema to what I need, I need higher multis dammit! ;)
