So I checked Monarch computers - they just raised their price on amd3200+ 90nm by $14.. And I've only seen these cpu's there and on newegg. Are they getting phased out, and if not, why are they in such short supply - it's been like 2 moths since they came out..? Thanks.

Supply and demand... There are more people that want these chips at their current price point than the supply will allow, so they raise the price. When demand goes down or supply goes up, the prices will come back down. :)

I understand supply/demand. What's worries me is that, it's been out for over 2 months - why are so few vendors carrying it?

I just ordered the 939 3000+ as a Mwave CPU - Motherboard Bundle

The processor was and still is $146 pretty sweet deal if you ask me. Also ZipZoomFly carries them. I didn't look at any other vendors because I trusted dealing with ZZF, Newegg or Mwave.

If anything, I'd say the 130nm procs are being phased out. It's cheaper for AMD to make the 90nm chips. I think the reason that you don't see a lot of them quite yet is the same reason that you couldn't really find 6800s or X800s for several (read: 4 or 5) months after launch. Too many people want them for the supply to keep up. I know quite a lot of people who held off for cheap 939 parts to upgrade, and now they're here.

Well, the FX series CPUs are slated to continue on the 130nm fabs.

Also, in a way, the current 90nm A64s are already marching towards EOL. The "Rev E" or Venice Athlon 64s will be shipping in early 05 supposedly. They'll have SSE3 instruction support, a more optimized memory controller.

Everything is currently MOVING to 90nm because it is makes more money for the companies and "should" run cooler. The CPU manufacturers are struggling with the move to 90nm so we may be here (between 130nm and 90nm) for awhile. Ironically, 65nm may be a long way off. But that it OK. As long as the computer market is going strong, life is good!
