hi everyone,

Like to have some advice from the experts here regarding the Abit KV8 pro.
1)Is it a good board and worth buying?
2)Currently, im using the Wins XP Pro(32bit) can i still use it after i upgrade to
Althon 64 bit? 3)Do i need to buy 64bit graphics card n sound card or can i use back
my old ones?

Thanks you.

I think you are confused on what 64-bit architecture is. But in short, the only thing you will need to run Windows 64-bit are new drivers for your hardware and a 64-bit CPU (such as an Athlon 64).

As for the KV8 Pro, it's a solid board, and it offers great performance. However, I am a bigger fan of Nvidia's chipsets, and arguably the best Socket 754 board made is on sale at Newegg for $99 shipped...the DFI LanParty UT.

The athlon 64 is actualy 32bit with 64bit extensions, so it is completely compatible with 32 bit hardware and software, so your video card and sound card will work perfectly fine with the new motherboard, as will you version of windows XP. The 64 bit version of windows xp still hasn't been released yet. Don't know about the Abit KV8 pro, most A64 users seem to like Nvidia Nforce chipsets rather than the via chipsets, but Abit tends to make good motherboards.

I am looking for a S754 mobo but your suggested DFI is not available in my country, any other recommendation? I found a review of MSI from AnandTech. Any expereince on MSI?
Epox and Chaintech as mentioned in the are also not available.

The MSI overclocks better than the KV8; in general, NForce3 250 based motherboards overclock better than their VIA K8T800 counterparts...the one exception being the 939-Pin Asus A8V.
