Hello, I just built the computer listed below. My temps are 46 idle and 56 -57 load (pc mark). Anyone with this same processor, the 3000+, can you please tell me your temps so I can base myself off of that?

TIA

other peoples temp won't mattter, too many variables between heatsinks, number of fans, kind of fans, components making heat, flow obstruction, power supply, thermal conduction between the heatsink and cpu, case size, etc.

edit: to get a better idea of the situation, what kind of case fans are you usings and what kind of thermal paste?

I am curious of that myself too... I put my machine together today and will post my temps as soon as I get home. I have the thermalright SK-U480 (dont know if that is the model number for sure) and used arctic 5 for thermal conduction. I have a panflo 90mm fan running 2800 rpm and 5 case fans. I need to upgrade my bios on the chaintec board before i can post temps (was reading 9C earlier and a bios update is supposed to fix that)

System is in my sig, stock it's 32C idle (800 mhz) and 39/40C under heavy load. OCing it adds 5C. I use all low speed fans (4 total, stock psu, stock rear case, vga silencer on low, and a panflo L1A 80mm on the cpu) so my comp is almost silent though. HSF on the cpu is a TT Venus 12.

I have 2 intake front, one outtake blowhole and 1 outtake in the back. all 80mm fans, with arctic silver 5 and I have hte TT Venus 12 too . I will try resintalling the heatsink, I prolly didn't put enough thermal paste. So the heatspreader should be completely covered with thermal paste?

Edit- All of the fans are Coolermaster too.

would this be somewhat related to the whole "incorrect MSI temperature readings" issue that has plagued many MSI boards BIOS?

i was unaware of any such issue with MSIs. its common knoweldge though that thermal diodes aren't very acurate. i'm not so sure if diode is just a general term for it, i think they are just really thermocouples, which tend to be rather inaccurate.

i have a athlon64 3000+ running at 2.4ghz @ 1.55v on a thermaltake silent boost. my idle temperature is 40-42c and under load it jumps to 46-47c. i have 2 ystech 80mm fans blowing air out the back and i know these make a huge difference.

Temps seems to run a little high on the two boards I have owned for my 3000+. My AN50R and VNF3 are within a degree or two though with 38-39C idle and 47-48C full Prime 95 load with my CPU at 2500mhz @1.75v using watercooling.

Processor Frequency: 2GHz (CnQ disabled)
CPU Voltage: 1.55-1.57
Heatsink/Fan: AMD + Arctic Silver 5 (ASUS Q-Fan disabled)

40 C (104 F) Idle >> 10 minutes cool down from Prime 95
50 C (122 F) Load >> 10 minutes of Prime 95

Ambient room temp 21C (70 F)

3400+ on Abit KV8 Pro, CNQ enabled

(1 GHz), idle: 43 C
(2.2 GHz), load: 60 C

Antec Lanboy case (clean wiring) with one 80 MM fan in the back - ambient case temp is 38 C.

Wow my temps are through the roof compared to everybody else. Somebody help me. I just bought a Athlon 64 3000 and a MSI K8N Neo mobo. Right off the bat the CPU temp is at 60C and quickly rises to about 69-70C in a matter of minutes with no heavy load. I don't even have the OS installed yet. Bought a new fan/heatsink just in case and have same results. I used artic siliver 5 with the new one. I saw the above post by FiberoN regarding a MSI temp reading issue. Is this a common problem or is it possible I have a defective CPU and/or Mobo.

Having 5 fans is overkill.

There was an article a while back that tested different fan configurations and found that the best way to orient them is to have 1 at the back and 1 at the top exhausting air with no fans at the front.

It's better to have less fans with good CFM rather than having 5+ fans that are bad at pushing air but manage to mix up each other's airpaths and ruin the airflow of the case.

EDIT: forgot to say something. What's your case temperature? If it's high that's probably the reason for such a high cpu temperature. Can't cool much if you're blowing hot air over it

i have the 64 3000 with stock hsf and a hellalota fans(most glow)
2x120mm, 4blue led, one between hdds and an ati 9800 pro and one mounted on the case front in
three drive bays
2x80mm, red/green/blue led, one in top blowhole, one in side window
2x80mm, one on back fan hole, one in ps
stock heat sink fans for the 3000 and the 9800 pro

runs at 38/ 44 under load with all fans at VERY low speed with room temp at 32

*****GREAT ADVISE*****
most people don't realize that overclocking can be done in reverse. when you overclock to near the processor's limit you have to increase the voltage to get it stable. this means that if you can overclock it any decent amountwithout raising voltages, you could also keep it at stock speed and decrease the voltage. mine will go down to 1.25v at stock speed and still run stable. that takes 5 or so degrees off the load temp. if you are overclocking or not, you should still lower the voltage to it's lowest stable setting.

good luck, hope it helps the temps

The lastest bios for the K8N Neo will fix your problem. Have you tried it yet?

Well I took back my CPU and Motherboard back and exchanged the mobo for a Gigabyte K8N Pro. And....problem solved!!!! My temp right now is avgeraging 40c. Do not know if it was CPU or Mobo (probably mobo) but new motherboard works like a charm. I was also having trouble installing XP on the MSI board so I guess I may have just had a defective board. Big difference from 70c to 40c on the temp though. Thanks for everyone's reply.

I have the A64 3000+ and the MSI K8N Neo Platinum mobo, my cpu temps are 43 idle and the highest I've seen under full load has been 57. Case idles at about 44, never higher than 50 under full load. With CnQ enabled, it doesn't ever drop lower than 1.8Ghz. I don't know why though, I think it should drop more. My temp w/ CnQ is about 36/37.

I'm using the stock hsf/fan, and I have 3 80mm fans; 2 intake and one exhaust. They're the ones that came with the case (Kingwin KT-424-BK). I live in South Florida though, and it's the middle of summer, so it gets fairly hot. I need to get a thermometer for this room to measure the ambient temp... and maybe one for the inside of the case, to make sure the sensor is correct.

Also, I have a 400w Sparkle PSU. I'm thinking of switching it for an Antec TruePower 380w, mainly because it has the extra fan on it. (The Sparkle only has one fan, I think it may be a contributing factor for the high temps)

I do have 2 case fans I forgot to mention and I have the same Antec TruePower 380 PS too. Its a Antec sonata (spelling?) case. Its possible my mobo just needed the above mentioned bios update. I have the same exact case on my other computer and it runs about the same temp wise.

When I had a K8N the temps were about 15 over with the shipping bios and about 8 over with the bios update.
