ATHLON XP WHAT TO DO??????

Hey

Folks Im about to get a new proc.

Im not sure on the performance diff between a 2400+,2500+,2700+


Which One should I get?????????????

this info has been posted many times but...

2400+ = 2.0Ghz - 266 Mhz FSB - 256k cache
2700+ = 2.26 ghz - 333Mhz FSB - 256k cache
1500+ = 1.8Ghz - 333Mhz FSB - 512k cache

At stock speeds and if youre not planning on overclocking get the 2700+ for best performance. However if you plan on overclocking and are also getting an Nforce2 (preferably ABIT NF7-S 2.0)and some PC3200 RAM then most definately get the 2500+ as it will overclock to an average of 2.2Ghz at 400Mhz FSB and the extra 256k cache makes a difference. There you go.

Go for the 2500. It's AMD's latest Barton configuration with 512 Mb L2 cash. It's a great value for money CPU as it is and seems to take well to overclocking. I have one running at 12.5 (instead of 11.0) multiplier and 180 FSB (instead of 166) which gives a clock speed of 2250 GHz - faster than the XP 3000. It's very stable at this setting and does not exceed 45C on the Sandra burn-in test (using CPU Idle and a CoolerMaster Dream).

This is achieved on a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP Ultra where you can adjust the multiplier using dipswitches on the board.

I heard a rumour that AMD produce all their later CPUs to the same speed and just put different numbers on the back. Just a rumour, I'm sure...

get a 2500+. for braggin rights (me) get the 2700+ ;p and for power braggin (not me, cant afford) it get 3200+

That sucks if that's been posted many times... that's some misinformation there.

XP2400 = 2.0 Ghz - 266 Mhz FSB - 256k cache (just like he said)
XP2700 = 2.17 Ghz - 333 Mhz FSB - 256k cache
XP2500 = 1.83 Ghz - 333 Mhz FSB - 512k cache

1700+ cheapest way to overclocking success
2500+ more cache if you need it and overclocks just as well

Woops, Blank Post. In my opinion I think you should get the 2600+ 333MHz. Great performance for less than $100. When you buy athlon xp's, dont pay attention to FSB's or Caches, just look at the model number to get an idea of speed.

get a good week xp 2500+, or get a 2100tbred with a good stepping and OC the chit out of it!
