Athlon XP TBreds lower than 2200?

At one point in time I read that AMD was going to start producing lower spec-ed Athlons with the T-Bred core. Newegg briefly had some XP1700+ (supposedly TBred) for $75.... and there's a discrete jump from the 2100+ (palamino) and the 2200+ (tbred) in price. I'm going to make a SFF Athlon, and I would GREATLY appreciate the lower heat ouput--but I don't necessarily need a 2200+. Any word on this? Any info is much appreciated!

People are saying we should see a flood of the lower end T-Breds pretty soon, but I haven't heard anyone mention an exact date yet. If you need something now you can always unlock the processor, then down clock and undervolt as much as you need. Unlocking is suppose to be very simple with the new T-Breds.

Thanks for the info.... Shuttle just released the SK41G (a SFF with an AGP, finally!)... and I'd like to build a low-budget (~$600) SFF for MP3s, etc. But I was worried about the heat from a Palamino (well, a TBred would be nice). Anyhow.... thanks for the info. :)

I asked my local dealer about TBreds less than 2200 and the only ones they could get at the current time are 1700+

eventually you'll see all the others too I think.

I wouldn't bother just yet unless you are under specific conditions. :p
like, your games don't run QUITE as smooth as you like, and you got a few extra bucks.
1700+ are cheap, but only a few MHz faster than yours, if you plan to OC it a bit, you may see a bit of difference there. if not, i'd wait until something else comes along for the right price.

Overclocking the low-end TBirds sounds like it will yield some pretty good results. This is especially true with nForce2 motherboards which can lock the PCI/AGP bus (Only AGP on some). Also, I am pretty sure no unlocking procedure is required with an nForce2 motherboard on an Athlon XP. I swear I remember reading this, but correct me if I'm wrong.

If you read the reviews for the 1800+ .13 XP @newegg.com you will see that everyone is getting 2ghz or higher. I will push mine above the 1.8ghz I have mine at when I get a better HSF. I only have a aluminum hsf(One of the best Aluminums ever made though). I need a copper hs.

1700+ and 1800+ Tbreds have been available for some time, since beginning of November for 1700+ and middle of November for 1800+. These are Rev. A cores!!! To get an idea of how well the chip will overclock, look at its stepping and mfg. date (02XX). The week is the important factor here, the newer Rev. A's are week 42 or later.

The Inquirer and Digitimes have both reported in the last few days that 1800+ to 2300+ T-breds Rev. B's should be appearing within the next few weeks. The date cited was late this week or early next week. You can look at AMD's spec sheets to determine the exact part numbers, but I'm way too lazy to list it here or link to it. If you search for 1700+ or Thoroughbred you should be able to find the listings here on AT. There is also an article at Overclockers.com that gives a thorough explanation on how to tell them apart.

Well...kinda. Without getting into too much detail....lower PR AGOIA's overclock well, the higher PR rated ones are "already there".
