Athlon XP Mobile 2500+ versus normal barton!

hi, friend needs new pc, he's on a budget but still wants good performance, so i recommended a barton 2500+ mobile with a Asus A7V880 motherboard... I think he thinks that they are just meant for mobiles, which technically they are, but they will work in desktops, and overclcok better.........

basically he doesnt trust me!! and so can someone please verify that these are a wise choice?

Everyone I know that purchased a mobile was able to OC it much higher than a desktop version. That being said, I still got a desktop 2500+ Barton and changed the FSB to make it a 3200+. I love having it at that speed and for $70 15 months ago it was a steal.

I would personally go with whatever is cheaper as you will probably get a good OC out of either though you can tell him that I KNOW the mobiles are fine for desktops and do oc better on average than the desktop versions.

not to mention an unlocked multiplier

so he doesnt necessarily have to have ddr400 or a chipset that supports 400fsb.

Mobiles are way better now. I dumped my desktop for a mobile and never been happier.

Mobile are hand chosen, cream of the crop. Early desktops were very good, but the best silicon now goes into mobiles.

Just make sure the mobo has all the adjustments in BIOS (vcore, multi etc.)

seems to me that this guy doesnt need more supporting reasons since he simply just doesnt trust his friend azzy

instead of trying to convince him with words, just throw a couple links at him about the mobiles and he can read to his content

you can find the abit nf7-s for around 50-60 bucks in the forums, i'd recommend that over the asus
