athlon xp differences

Thortons are essentially Bartons with half of their cache disabled. Performance-wise, Thortons and Thoroughbreds are the same.

There's no way that I know off that will allow you to turn a Thorton into a Barton. Physically, the extra 256k of cache is not there, so you can't just "turn" it on.

[Edit] The above statement is false.....see my post below :Q
 
actually...

you can...

there are artciles that talk about enabling the other 256k's of L2 cache but i don't remember where i read it....


so the extra 256 is there... just not enabled or not working properly so it was disabled...
 
cool. thanks guys. I was thinking of getting one of these since they were a little cheaper than the bartons. I appreciate the info.
