Athlon XP Big Diffrence?

Ok, I was woundering. Im going to upgrade my CPU from a Thunderbird 1.4 to an Athlon XP. My question is, Which One. My criteria are Speed, Stabiblity, and Price. So, my question boils down to is, Do I get a $110 Athlon 1900 or is it worth the $60 Price jump to get a 2100?
 
Well, I can only offer experience, but I recently upgraded from a 1.33@1.54 to an XP1900+@2000+. I really can't notice, or 'feel' any difference but I can see it in benchmarks and SETI processing times. My stability, however has increased--I haven't had a crash in over a month whereas I had a crash about every two days with my bird.

If you can afford it, I would advise going all the way to the 2100+ just to guard against being disappointed with your upgrade.
 
Cogman, like basilisk420 stated, unless you are runninga DC program, you probally won't notice the difference. A rule of thumb that has always served me fine is to buy one step behind the latest, that way I don't "overpay" for something, saves me cash 🙂 Hope this helped.
 
If your mobo is compatible with T-bred, I'd wait a month to see if they can squeeze some more out of the core. Later revisions might have more oc'ability. Or you can look for a cheap XP in For Sale. A new 2100+ will cost close to $200 shipped. That's a big chunk of change. An XP1800+ should cost less than $80 at For Sale.

Game wise you'll notice the change. 1900+ is a great buy, not WAY to hot either. 2100+ is a good deal faster, but it really depends on how much speed you want.
 
I would definitely go for an XP... like someone else said, don't go for the top of the line model as you will just overpay.

I upgraded to an XP a few months back and have been very impressed -- that was coming from a 1.33 Tbird. The XP's run significantly cooler and that's a big plus. Also, the SSE support really does help in a lot of games and other apps.
 
I can't tell the difference when my 1800+ is at 1733 instead of 1533. I doubt you'd see any major difference between 1600 and 1733.
