"Most of what we talked about was under NDA for a while, but you?ll see a lot of it coming out on the Athlon 64 launch. What they did show me was a highly overclocked Athlon XP system. I didn?t get a picture, but the specs included an Athlon XP 3200+ processor, a Gigabyte nForce2 Ultra 400 motherboard, 1 GB of PC4000 memory, Serial ATA drive and more. What was impressive was seeing the motherboard and processor running at 500/500 bus and memory speeds and a 11.5x multiplier, for a frequency of 2.875 GHz!! The memory timings were of course very relaxed but the system was rock solid and benchmarks will be available soon"

How the HELL did they do that? Thoughts? How?

Is this on air, or is this watercooled...because if its on air (providing you have better cooling on the NB or something) at non-insane voltages I think that would be AWSOME....

2875Mhz...what would that be equal to in the Pentium4 range?

Probably... or some other sort of phase change cooling...

Check this(Top Ten list) out... lots of crazy overclocks... can't really say much for verification... but if they're true... probably using some sort of exotic cooling as well... like liquid nitrogen.

Of course, if these super-fast Athlon XP systems get unvieled around Athlon 64 time, what is the point of them? AMD wouldn't want to sell them because they would probably eclipse the Athlon 64.

publicity... :) if these Athlon XPs can do that... the general public will assume the 'better' Athlon 64s can do even more. anyway its just exposure... intel does it all the time as well with their 4Ghz P4 when they brought out the Canterwood.
