Does anyone have a similar setup and if so how does it perform with new games?
Will the Athlon XP 3200 cripple the performance of the x1950 Pro?

Any help will be greatly appreciated! :)

The nice thing about the XP series is they react very well to clock speed increases, if they got the results they did at 1800mhz and a 333mhz FSB then the results would have ben much greater at 2200mhz and a 400mhz fsb. Take into account that the AXP's really wake up at 2400+ mhz and there would be little to no diff on that benchmark between the A64 3400+ and an older AXP machine :)

They really should have used the 3000+ or the 3200+ to go against the A64 3400+ though, that or they should have used the A64 3000+.

I have an Athlon XP 2600 with an x1950gt. And yes, I think my CPU is limiting it's performance. Although it's great as I can play pretty much everything, and for older games I can crack up all the eye candy.

I was pretty underwhelmed when I went from Barton 2500 @ 3200 speed to an Athlon64 3500+. The Athlon XP was a great CPU. More than anything though, it's going to be limited by its single core nature, and the GPU to a lesser extent.

I had the same experience when I went from my athlon xp 2500 mobile which I had overclocked to 2.5Ghz! :)

Yeah, I can tell you right now there was a huge noticeable diff going from my stock 1.8ghz on my 2400+ XP-M to 200x12 for 2400mhz even with my Radeon 9800Pro. I went from dipping FPS all over the place to a very stable FPS in just about every game I can play with it.

As I said, the XP processors reap bennefits better than most other CPU's from overclocking, if anyone has one I'd recommend overclocking it to at least 2200mhz - 2400mhz if you can, adjusting the multiplier alone will help though not as much as increasing the bus speed.

Just to confirm that I am now using a x1950 Pro AGP with my Socket A computer:-

Here are my scores (although I still need to test my Athlon XP 3200)

Athlo64 X2 4200 (2.2Ghz), Athlon64 3000 (1.8Ghz), Athlon XP 2500 (1.8ghz) followed by Sempron 2200 (1.5Ghz)

3dmark 2003 = 15101, 13949, 13322, 12441
3dmark 2005 = 9486, 7707, 6252, 4709
3dmark 2006 = 5530, 4217, 3858, 3051

I guess I missed out on the whole XP buzz. Put mine at 3200+ speeds; hardly felt any faster at all. Upgraded for $40 to my Sempron 3100+ and OC'd to 2.3Ghz and that's much faster.
