my temps rise to 51 celsius and it sometimes takes a while to do tasks because it freezes occassionally. i'm running in an a7n8x-e and its even freezing when i type this. i have two 80mm intake fans and one 120mm exhaust along with an evercooler fan/heatsink (not sure about heatsink, but i assume its evercooler as well).

it starts up at like 40, but quickly climbs up to 50. my case is 32 celsius. i added as5 to the cpu. do 3000's run this hot? what's normal? should i buy a new heatsink/fan? which one? thnx

I've been running 47c for over a year now with a Volcano 12 HSU. I have taxed the hell out of it and it has never gone over 53c. Stock case fans in my Cooler Master ATCs case. This is going by the ASUS Probe utility.

That's not hot... it's normal. Don't be confused by the Athlon-64 3000+ temps... Athlon-64's are much different than Athlon XP's and run quite a bit cooler.

Fifty degrees C is *nothing*. If it is freezing up, there's more wrong than heat. Don't worry until it's above 60, maybe 65, a LOT of the time.

good luck..

thnx. i took off the heatsink, cleaned it up, and reapplied some as5. this time i took off the grill from the fan, but it still runs the same.

it just seems way too hot from my old p4 1.8 which was like 35 at load. the thing that worries me is i can't type normally when it reaches 50 or so. it'll freeze and when i play an mpeg video it sometimes lags behind and has to catch up. i'm worried to play counter-strike again. :(

i'm thinking of just getting a new heatsink. anybody know the best heatsink/fan to get for the lowest price? i'd prefer to have 45 max at load if that's possible.

It seems to me you have other issues rather than heat as mentioned by kiwi. It very well could be a RAM thing. What RAM are you running?

You shouldn't compare heat ratings to other CPU types. They have different cores and thus different temp ratings.

My Thermaltake Volcano 12 extreme is very good and all copper. I can run 3DMark05 at full quality settings and my 3000 never exceeds 53c. If you want to go to 45c I guess you could turn the fan up all the way up.........but wear your earplugs!

i hope its another problem. i'm currently running one 512 stick of pc4000 ocz mixed with a 256 stick of some pc2700 ram. i know that sounds absurd lol, but since i wasn't going to overclock i thought more ram would be better and i had noticed a difference with my other setup (i'm borrowing the pc4000 ram anyway). i'll go ahead and try just the pc4000 stick and see if it still happens.
