Athlon XP 2400 and Epox 8RDA+

I just picked up this setup and plan on building in a few days. Do I need to unlock this cpu? Also, is their a site which databases the O/C potential of specific athlon core revisions or does anyone have any idea of what type of OC I should expect?

The Anandtech review of nForce2 mobos claims that the Epox nf2 board is able to change the multiplier of the 2400+ (Tbred B) without any phyiscal modification to the cpu. I've also read somewhere that the Tbred 1800+'s multiplier can be adjusted by the Epox nf2 board with out modification as well, but I'm not sure (I'm pretty sure the 1800+ Tbreds aren't the Bs). It'd be great if someone would clarify this as I'd much rather pick up an Epox board for $100 along with a $60 1800+ Tbred than a $170-200 2400+.
 
I've read that in more than just one review. I am pretty sure it works.. can't wait to receive that badboy!!

The 8RDA+ does unlock the multipliers on the AXP 2400+, you just need to flash the bios with the latest on found on Epox.com. 🙂

As soon as I get it built I will post my OC exploits, I am going to use an sk-6 heatsink, and (i think) Corsair XMS 3500 (unless someone can recommend something better for a little cheaper 😉)

The SK-6 & the XMS is sufficient to "fund" ur O/cing.

 
The SK6 is a good H\S but for a few dollars more you'll be much better off with a SK7. The smaller core's run Hot in the 1.85 vcore range and i dont think the SK6 will handle it very well.

I would highly suggest staying away from OCZ memory in general. Commonly, the memory doesn't live up to advertised speeds and the company is shotty with its labeling of ram (its a common occurence to get overclocked slower ram). This company and it's products should be avoided. Corsair is a tried and true brand, and the only other possible alternatice is the Kingston Hyper-X memory, but thats about the same price if not more expensive then the Corsair XMS PC3500 C2.
 
They do have a bad rep, but that is not a listed speed. That was a from a benchmark comparison between the 3200 and 3500 DDR's out there. 492 is how much the people doing the benchmark got it at default settings, and they were able to get above 500 by increasing the vdimm more.
